I used to be such a diehard Marshall guy and the recto series didn't help Boogie's chances at creating infidelity but I fell in love with a Stiletto. Well it's a slippery slope as I just picked up a new, closeout Mark 5 head from Guitar Center. It may have been the last one in Washington. I learned to dial these in pretty good as I've tried them, on and off over the last few years, with different levels of satisfaction but after the last three times (including demoing this one) hitting pay dirt, it was time. Came across it randomly in their used section and saw it wasn't used. A little 18 Months, no interest later and home it came! Came home the same time as the wife, it had it's cover on and I didn't even mention it as we walked in together. She looked at it but because I didn't act like anything was new (she may have thought it was one of my other amps). IShe didn't say anything. She asked me what I did today and I just said "Nothing really" Totally pokerfaced her

Just haven't dug a new Marshall as I have newer Boogies in a while….Blasphemy but what can I do?

If the wife catches on I was just following Stephen's advice will be my excuse….

Congratulations!
I love the aesthetics of the boogie mark series. From everyone's comments, it seems mr. Smith hit a home run with the mark V!

She asked you what you did today because she saw you carrying something in with a cover on it, there might be a delayed doghouse consequence.

j/k, congrats.

New Marshalls are garbage. New Boogies are ace! Happy NGD!

I'll take a Mark V over a jvm anyday.
i sold my JVM410H and a yjm when i bought my mark-V
never looked back!

this is a great amp!
congrat

I love a Boosted or modded JCM800 as much as anyone and I know some like the JVM but every time I've tried them they just didn't do it for me. Las time I tried a Royal Atlantic next to a JVM and liked the Royal way more. And I feel that the new DSLH Marshall is a pile of junk.

Please with the JVM bashing. I sold the original JVM and got the Satriani JVM currently AND a Mesa MK V. Totally different amps. Both great. That Satch JVM showed my YJM100 the door. It's that good IMO. So is the MK V. Neither can cover the other's tones IMO

HNGD! The Stiletto is one of my radar amps and has been for a long time. I used to not be a huge fan of Mesa, but after playing a Blue Angel, Rocket 44 and a Mark IV, I've been gassing hard for one.

I'm not bashing the JVM, It's just not my thing but I only tried the Satch model once for not a lot of time. But the DSLH I will bash, didn't like anything about it.

Way to get it past the wife.
I'm a big fan of the Mesa amps and the attention to detail in both features and build quality.
Their variac gets little attention for such a tremendous feature.

But the Stilletto is based on a Marshall isn't it? I mean they designed it after Andy Timmon's Marshalls which he prefers but doesn't want to tour with. Am I way off base on this information?

They claimed "british EL34 tones" Not sure how they sat down and drew it up. They have discontinued it though. For $800 or so the Deuce stage 2 is a good deal. If you boost it, good cab, careful tweaking, and an effect or 2 it sounds like a modded Marshall if you ask me.

congrats on the mark V. Welcome again to the boogie family.

Dang, that sounds really good!!

I made the jump into Boogie a few months back with a Mini Rec. I'm really having fun with that little thing. Making me look at the different boogies now. I was all Marshall before. Still love them but it is fun exploring some new tones.

Dude! That's the clip that made me want a Stiletto! It sounds so badass there.

Thanks guys. The Stiletto was another amp that I tried regularly over the years and never gelled with 100% from a Marshall lover standpoint but one day stumbled a used one in GC. Always plug in when I see one just in case and BAM! It was the one. Just had a sweeter top end than others I've tried. Still bright or harsh if you go crazy but it could be dialed in to be sweet but still ballsy. What I dug about the MK V was that a guy started demoing a bass distortion pretty loud right near me as I was playing it and leads just cut through like butter. I didn't have to turn up, it just went all Ninja Assassin on his ass

I know they'll probably say they haven't changed it but I get plenty of gain on CH 3, even in IIC mode for muting/chugging using a PAF style Hum where I distinctly remember in the early runs I didn't feel I could do it without using a boost. I'm dialing in my guitar room (closet really) so hopefully I can do a proper mic'd clip as opposed to cell phone skullduggery.

Carl, hear you on the JVM. It's a good amp but just doesn't do it for me as a real versatile tone generator. Would still take a 2203/04 and a pedal any day over it. But I wouldn't kick it out of bed for eating crackers either. I think as a gigging amp it would be pretty cool.
