So I just a Bogner 101b. Amp sounds killer, but I am having an issue with the FX loop and footswitch.

When I turn the loop to on with the switch on the head, it activates and works fine. That seems to render the Footswitch useless. Stepping on the Loop button doesn't even light up the LED. If I turn the loop to off on the head, the footswitch LED lights up and toggles on/off when you use it, but the FX loop does not change state...stays off.

Which position should the heads switch be in for the footswitch to control the loop function?

Should be off on the head I believe, otherwise the footswitch wont work, which you found out. Check your send/return volume. When all else fails, look at the manual...

If the FX Loop Button on the foot controller is off, the preamp signal flows from the Vol. 1, 2 & 3 controls
into the power amp section. Naturally, you will want to get a balance between the three channels. Do this
now with the Vol. 1, 2 & 3 controls (the channel masters).
If you want to put an effect in the loop, plug a shielded cable from the Send jack on the rear panel to the
input of your effect, and another shielded cable from the out of the effect to the Return jack. If the effect
has "level" switches, set them to "+4". Tap the Loop button on the foot controller. You will notice that the
yellow "FX loop indicator" light under the "presence B" knob on the front left panel will come on. You have
a knob on the left rear panel with the words "Master Vol." under it. Slowly bring up the "Master Vol" Knob.
You should now hear your effect. In series mode use the balance control in your effect to balance dry
signal with effected signal. The Master Vol. now is the Power Amp (return) Volume, and it only works if
the loop is on. The Master Vol. knob allows you to match Loop on and Loop off volumes. Switch Loop off,
listen to the volume, then switch Loop on and match that volume with Master Vol. Of course, watch the
input level on your effect. If the input LED’s are in the red, turn down the input of the effect, and reset
Master Vol. The Loop button on the Rear panel is there to switch the loop in and out if you're for some
reason without your foot controller. If there is no effect in the Loop, Foot controller or not, the Loop button
on the Rear panel must be set to "off", or the circuit from pre to power amp is open.
If you switch your Ecstasy to the parallel loop mode (located between send and return jacks), the signal
flow is a little different. The dry preamp signal will always flow directly to the power amp. The effected
signal will be added to or "blended" in with the dry signal. The knob on the left rear panel is called the
"Mix" control. The further clockwise you turn the "Mix" control, the more effect you'll hear. Now your guitar
signal has come back from your effect, through the Loop return and Master Vol. control, (or

Pretty sure something is wrong. I got this amp from someone local and he actually has another XTC with footswitch. He is willing to swap out the switch from that one and is going to test it tonight before we exchange so that I know the FS should be good. If that one doesn't work with this head then its gotta be the head.

I have a very short amount of time with the amp at this point, but one other thing I noticed is that with both the Blue and Red channel when I put it on B2 and have Excursion on M or L that amp goes into crazy feedback pretty easy. Wondering if that is normal. I'll probably check out the tubes to make sure none or going nuts.

Yeah... the button should be in the off (out position) for the foot switch to work. Sounds like something is wrong.

First: take the footswitch out of the equation...remove the cable from the amp. Make sure the Effects loop functions with the switches in the amp first. If all works as it should, then it's the footswitch. Very COMMON problem with the XTC footswitch is the LED's. If those go out, the footswitch won't function. I just had to replace the Effects Loop LED because it kept flickering on and off. New LED, problem solved!

Yes, the loop button on the back of the amp should be in the "Off "position for the footswitch LED to light up--which is the opposite of most amps. But on my Ecstasy, "Off" is the pushed in position.

Thanks guys. I got it sorted out. It was the footswitch.
