Got the Herbie in today  So far so good. Sounds KILLER in the room, weird to record. Had to totally change my setting in an extreme way. More bass than any head I've ever played thru. Stays tight all the way. Anyway here are a few fast clips. Its some Dokken riff from the '80's. I did a comparision with my ENGL SE cause I was curious how the two would stack up. A few of you wanted the comparision too....

First just the Herbert

Second, just the SE

Lastly, both together

I was told over and over that the Herbert would smoke the SE. I don't hear it. Sounds good though. :)

maybe its just me but they sound nearly the same to me. I like the tone though.

They are very different amps, but both are killer for METAL !

Have checked out the VH4? It has alot of compression like the SE.

They both sound really good. The SE a little bit more compressed. In your recording, I like the Herbert a little bit more. I hear and read things like this will smoke that and this will blow away that. I don't buy into it. There are going to be differences for sure, but YOUR ears gotta decide what wins and loses. Just like MY ears decide what is best for me. And I'm talking about live and in the room sound, feel and dynamics. Properly recorded (or even one 57 into Garageband and raw) I think it's possible to get a very good (i'm mainly talking heavy guitar tones) sound with any one of the dozens and dozens of good quality amps. Marshall, 5150, Splawn, Diezel and Axe FX are all capable of delivering killer tones. Just like Olags videos, He gets killer and very similar tones from just about every amp he has tried. I do like the way they both sounded together. I'm a fan of blending two amps for sure. Which do you like better in the recording? How about in person?

I like em both on the recording. The diezel sounds awesome in person. Very hifi. Tons of highs and lows. That stuff usually is much harder to record...

that SE sounds great recorded. the herbert has so much hiss going on it's distracting. don't like the herbert at all even though it's essentially the same tonally.

The Engl sounded like it has a bit more teeth. The Herbert sounded a little fuller. Both sounded great!

nice clips, i cant choose between them because they both sound good in the clips, if i was choosing one to own i would take the herbert, i had to make that choice 3 yrs ago and chose the engl se and i was sorry i didnt keep the herb and sell the engl.

I liked the Engl clip a bit better. It's a thicker more substantial sound with a bit less sizzle. Both sound good though.

I think maybe the SE sounds better because you've had it longer and it's more "dialed in" to your tone?

Ok, listened again through good headphones and now I like the actual tone of the Herbert more, but there's a lot of noise in the background. The SE sounded good, but compared to the Herb it's a little sterile or flat sounding.

I liked the SE better in the clips. After owning both, I prefer the SE for metal and the Herbert for everything else. The Herbert is great for metal too, I just prefer the SE.

I liked the Herbert much more. It has more "presence". The SE sounds compressed (I don't like that).

The problem about the Herbert recording is the background noise in the track.

I like the SE more in those clips. I owned a Herbert for a while and did not dig it much.

I would love to check out an SE. In those clips I like the mid range presence the Herbert has a little more but it could be as simple as bumping up the mids and backing off the gain on the SE. I've demoed a Herbert and a VH4 and Diezel is definitely not for me as far as playing in person.

Both sound good to me! And as mentioned pretty similar. Thanks for sharing!

i liked the Herbert better, but not by much, they both sounded great.

The SE was only on channel 3, with the gain at 11:30, and a 5751 in V1. Absolutely ridiculous amount of gain!

There aren't many amps that have haunted me, but the Herbert is one. When I built Brad's rig with the Herbert, the damn thing just blew me away.

Someday I'll have one in my arsenal.
