I find it difficult to describe the sound of a VH4 when someone asks. It's just a really well-balanced platform. I know people who didn't like if for that very reason in that it's pretty non-descript. It doesn't really have a specific tonal feature. Most of the amps that sound unique tend to be one-trick ponies. The VH4 just seems to do a lot of things very very well without being extreme in any one area.
Plus, the components were made in Cybertron by Autobots.

Yup, that sounds right. I can't describe it either. You have to hear it in person and this amp is all about what you throw at it

I think people expect the VH4, given its price & infamy, to sound like a pro-tooled-to-fuck Killswitch Engage guitar track straight out of the box.
Most famously, the premier guitar demo of the VH4 on YT is just about the most appalling display of what the VH4 can do.

Funny thing is, it kinda does when you're in the room with it

Germans really are squared away when it comes to engineering, attention to detail, and over the top quality aren't they? Nice grind on that one bro!

Te VH4, in person, is one of the most daunting and over-the-top amp heads I've ever had the pleasure of playing or laying eyes on. It's a whole lotta amp  But you're right, the attention to detail, the quality, the perfection, it's all obvious and apparent - and then you try and pick the thing up?!?!?! Daaaaayuuum, it's got some weight to it.

I've never heard a VH4 in person but every clip and recording I've heard of them seem to have a certain scratchy/abrasive quality to the sound. Particularly in channel 3. It's not bad sounding in fact it makes it seem more aggressive. Just a common upper mid range crunch that is in every clip. Is that present "in the room"?

Further to this, the VH4 is one of the only amps I know that you have to hear it live, in the room, to truly appreciate what it offers. It's got pixie dust ALL over it man, it's sick

Sounds great! You put up some great clips. On a side note I would hate to see your Wife's shoe and handbag closet

Thx man. About 15 years in IT at this point.
No shit. I was an IT cat for about 15 years too :D

Computer geeks dig "gear". Imagine. We must be the cool ones. We take plectrum material over pocket protectors

The Diezel sounds a bit flubby on the low end to me tbh
when you turn up the gain, you should turn down the bass, and make sure you turn up the amp.
especially the channel volumes to about 12oclock, then you will feel it super tight.
Yes......the Diezels to me personally....love to be run about noon straight across (of course not the master volume)
But the VH4 and the Herbert....ran bout everything at noon...and killed.

Hey buddy, why don't you post the good news into the Diezel Forum?
Btw, don't post the VH4 EVH vid. I guess Peter will dislike the Mickey Mouse sound like he uses to call it. But I like it!!!!

What's the Mickey Mouse sound??

Hot Rodded 80ies Marshall Sound.

I use a rocktron midi raider with my Diezel Herbert.

I got it all working! Thanks for the offer to help :)

It doesn't need pedals for rhythm tones...I completely agree with that. I was curious about leads tones as I don't really the channel 4 for lead tones.

I find it interesting what the opinions are on what the 4 needs or does not need. If it is good to your ears? Use it, Od, compressor, what ever fits the bill. I LOVE my KoKo with this beast  ! The clean with my LP coil tapped on the neck with a bit of delay and an acoustic simulator is just crazy good.

I always love your clips and drooling over your amp room. I do have to say this is the (and they are all great) clip yet from a tone perspective. Keep em coming!

Dude, thank you

I did some EQing last night and the Diezel is extremely versatile. I dialed out the Bass on channel 3 and 4 send it was this tight and chunky attack that sounded awesome. Can't wait for the weekend so I can really dig in!

I also tried the Koko and it was awesome on top of Channel 3.

Unfortunately my back is still killing me from carrying it into the house

Nice! I use the moderator JamUp/BIAS to get a acoustic simulator, works also fine :)

I don't like a lot of the clips online of the VH4. To me, it's an amp that needs outboard FX & drives to make it wet & really sing. It's a pretty dry & non-descript amp on its own I think. I can see why some people don't like it. I love it.

The video narration just killed me...

"Look how deep that thing goes, the other ones are so thin"

:hys:

Nice amp BTW, I have been close to pulling the trigger on this... Where is the Rhodes and The stealth???

This is actually a really old thread....I unloaded the Diezel...it sounded HUGE but wasn't the type of feel I go for.

Still have it, keeping it safe. :)
