So today isn't the actual NAD, I received the amp last thursday but I just wanted to give some initial impressions.

Initial impression: HOLY SHIT!

I seriously wasn't prepared for how much I was going to love this amp. It's honestly never been on my radar. I simply bought it because I'm sick with aimless GAS and I'm running out of bucket list amps to own. But holy shit does it do that meaty power chord thing better than any amp I've ever owned. It's unseated the 101B as my previous all time favorite amp. I pretty much live on channel 3 or 4. The clarity and the string separation at even the heaviest gain settings is truly next level. The authority of the low end while still staying punchy at volume has floored me. I've made some really great sounding captures with my Quad Cortex so I can take this guy on the road for work. Overall I'm over the moon with the VH4.

Yes it's another glowing honeymoon period review, but I don't see myself getting tired of this one!

Congrats on a fantastic amp.

Some of my personal thoughts...

This amp is a weird one in the high gain metal world. I personally like it, as it is an acquired taste for people who like tight, stringent and unforgiving amps...much like the VHT/Fryette Pitbull UL series stuff.

Experiment with tubes, especially power tubes If you play with at least some sort of respectable volume for an amp with that power, you will be rewarded with an array of different tones and feel. That amp is worth investing some tubes and time with.

This amp takes OD boosts much differently than with any other amp I've ever owned. It turns a lot of people off I find but to me, I welcomed the challenge and difference. It made me realize how much of a different beast it is compared to the norm that's out there. Exciting TBH...

I'll end with just really spend some time with the amp and have fun. Its truly great for a reason. Legendary status I don't particularly agree with (that's a Metallica/Tool nut hugger thing) but its a MEAN machine for sure you just have to understand its unforgiving base characteristics to learn it and see if its what you really want to work with in the long haul at the end.

Have fun. It's always a great time exploring a new amp.

Like any iconic amp, ie: like the 5150, Recto, 2203, SLO, etc... it does it's own thing, yet it's also more than just a pigeonholed CH3 TOOL/Metallica amp. This also ends up polarising people between over excited hype and some folks general tendencies to shit on anything too popular. Same goes for all the big target amps.

Spend lots of time tweaking on all the channels and enjoy them all.

Bought one a few weeks back too. Really nice counterpoint to my 2204 and Headfirst MCII build. Definitely brings something different to the table and brings out different things from my playing, which is always rewarding. Cool amp.

I wasn't a fan initially when I got mine but it has grown on me tremendously. It helped to swap out the KT77s it came with to 6L6s and performing a negative feedback mod (moving NFB wire from 8 ohm to 4 ohm speaker jack) which helps open the amp up perfectly imo. The amp sounds incredible with G12T-75s I've found. Surprisingly the Bogner 4x12 I have doesn't sound that great with it.

I'll be honest, I want it for channel 3. But too many people have said the VH2 is not the same as the channels on the VH4. So I wonder.
I hear ya.
Id love to compare a bunch of these amps live, like the top end KSR heads, etc.

I can't really afford to spendaybe $3000 on my next amp in which I'm currently saving. I struggle to justify spending more than that, but now I don't know. Ugh.
