Dammit! I already liked the red channel with no boost and haven't tube rolled yet, then I tried boosting the blue channel with a maxon 808, and it sounds as good as everyone said.... will lower gain pre's make the red closer to the blue without screwing up the blue channel??
I'm ok with boosting and lowering the gain of red as long as it doesn't make blue useless for brootz if that makes sense. ? Really wish I just had two blues lol.

Preesh. So did the 5751 or the 12au7 make the red closer the blue? I don't mind boosting, just would rather have both chans, or neither need a boost if that makes sense. ? Cause right now blue sounds killer boosted, but red sounds like poo boosted, so if I'm gonna boost....
Totally overthinking this really as red sounds good to me as is, and I have a lead channel with the switchable effects loop anyway.

I don't think I ever tried the 5751, but others in that thread did.
The amp creator Howard suggested the au7 and it does bring the Red down a notch, which I think is needed. It doesn't affect Blue at all. Don't discount the LPS tube either, that was an awesome de-fizzing.
But does it make RED=BLUE? No. The gain levels become comparable, but the character is still very different. Blue to me is an awesome roided up 800 tone, just about perfect as-is or with an OD set to a sliver of gain/clean boost. Red seems to have a super fast and percussive Fortin/Cameron attack to it with a huge and tight low end- very cool for modern metal stuff and aggressive material. I change my mind a lot on where to hang for such stuff- Red or Blue boosted. Sometimes I wonder if I should get Red modded to Blue specs I love it so much. But I do love the Red at times too, so it's fun to mix it up.
Definitely, try some tube rolling and the amp will give you lots of choices !

Thanks dude. That's my next step is get a few tubes to try. I get to practice at band volume Friday so I'll have a better idea of where I'm at.

I've found that lower gain tubes effect the blue channel as well, but I never tried a tube swap in V3 alone, always V2 & V3. But, it's worth it too me, because it actually smoothed out the woofiness that blue sometimes had. I always felt win-win. V1 tube makes a huge difference on blue. For current production, I always stuck with Tungsol. If I ever get over to my brother's where my tubes are, I'll cherry-pick some for you to try, (I have about 100, all flavors/brands, current and NOS).

Cool, let me know, I'll buy a few from ya. I had some old sylvanias and rca's but I think the ended up in the marshall I traded last year. Let me know if ya have a set of 6l6's as well. A soon as I start rolling tubes I'd like to put a set of decent power tubes and a proper bias as well. I know it doesn't work for everyone, but it's a keeper for my brootz project. Would like to get it properly tuned and tuned.

I for sure have 6L6's. I think two pairs of Ruby 6L6GC-MSTR. I'll see if he's around tonight, and I'll go dig through.

The 12AU7 I tried in V3 (or V4) was a 60's RCA. As others said, the structure of red is still different (more compressed, thick) than blue, but a single quality 12AU7 can SIGNIFICANTLY bring down the gain levels of the red channel.

The 2x 5751 covers a bit middle ground; lower the gain, but not too much.
V2, V3 and V4 are all for the red channel ONLY. V5 & V6 (and V1 ofcourse) will affect blue.

Had a very nice discussion :jerkit: about this with this prick on TGP, boiled down to semantics and he kept changing his story.
This shut him up eventually:

I'm going to open mine up tomorrow to let you know what I have in mine,I was messing around with my new OD pedal and clicked on the Blue chnl w/out the OD pedal and it sounds huge,meaty..I have been on the red chnl so much forgot about the blue and that was with the gain about 2pm..when I use one of my clean boost pedals it really does open this amp up..mine doesn't have any lower gain tubes in it,maybe a Sovtek LPS in there somewhere, but I can't find my little note pad where I write all my settings, tubes etc at.

Thanks I appreciate it. This thing is killer for what I'm working on now. Definitely want to get it to the best state of tune I can.
