So, I ordered a used EVH 5150 III 100S (stealth) head from GC last week. Finally got it today and was pretty pissed to see that it literally wasn't a stealth. Stupid GC pulled a bait and switch on me and then claimed that it was a mistake. Admittedly, I did get a pretty good deal on it at a little less than a grand shipped to my house. However, still pretty frustrating to be expecting a stealth and get something else.

That said, I plugged it in and decided to keep it anyway. Awesome amp, stealth or not. I am a little disappointed that I didn't quite get the deal I thought I was getting but that's how it goes sometimes.

Just a heads up (no pun intended), they have another one on there right now also listed as a 100S and it's not either.

What they did is illegal. And unethical. I'd be pissed. And I'd get them to knock more $ off the price if it happened to me and I was gonna keep it.

Me too. That's the only way to know for sure, sometimes it works out in our favor though. Bought a JCM 800 once where they had a DSL pictured. Called them and gave the item number, and I asked the kid how many knobs it had lol...so he wouldn't figure it out. He said 6. So I bought it from the website. My DSL was an 87 2204 for 650 lol.

There was a picture on the listing, so I didn't think anything of it. I also called the store to ask them about the condition and double check that the footswitch was with it... because I just got this DV Mark Triple 6 that was pictured with the footswitch but it showed up without it. That ignorant shit just pisses me off... In the end, I decided to keep the Triple 6... they couldn't find the Smart Controller. Morons. Luckily, it has individual inputs for each channel so I just used some Boss switches and a 6 channel recording snake to create my own footswitch lol.

I doubt I will get anywhere with them... I tried to talk to customer service to see if I could get an exchange and they told me to return it.

If I plan to possibly keep something that they screw up like that, I call the store that it shipped from and say that I want a return label to send it back to them. If they say to drive it back to your closest GC, I say that I don't have a car or ride a motorcycle. Then I mention that if I do like the amp what are the possibilities of a discount to keep it? But be sure to call the store and not customer service. The store managers are a bit more personal (for better or worse) because of they don't want it back.

I called a GC in CT last week about a DSL 100 with white tolex. I asked the guy to go take a look at it and explain what made it "good condition" instead of "excellent or great condition." He said it looked like the tolex had been spray painted white and there was some paint coming off. Whew! Glad I called.

Another time I called a GC in TX to have someone there send me cell phone photos of an EBMM Axis they had for $800ish. It was beat to hell with rusty bridge saddles. Glad I called.

My best one was when I bought an HSS Strat on eBay from Sweetwater. The photo had a Floyd Rose, but it wasn't mentioned in the description, which I skimmed and then hit BIN for $550. Guitar arrived with standard Fender bridge. I called and explained that, while I should have read the description more carefully and messaged them about it before buying it, they had the wrong photo and that's what I went by. I asked for an exchange. They sent me a return label and sent me the right guitar, would not accept additional payment. I think I saved about $200 because of that.
