This is my first NAD post. Not my first new amp, but first that is NAD post worthy. :D Actually had it a week. Just recorded a little clip a couple of hours ago. One mic (SM57), one track and raw. Put a drum beat from EZ drummer also. Recorded using Garageband. I talked to Mike about what I was looking for with the mods and he really delivered. It's very, very aggressive sounding in person. Raw and aggressive. Tons of gain and percussive. Put a new quad of Winged C 6L6s and all Penta Lab 12AX7s.

Sick, man! Love it.

nice!!! got any pre-mod clips? I'd be curious to see how much it was improved.

Sounds great. I am going to email you with questions about using garagebands if you don't mind.

Here's the riff. Simple.

Antulio, that clip sounds nice and brutal
When I had it on the bench, Dave Z was playing some country chicken picking through it

I love It!!  there's a VTM at my local GC for 250... Hmmm

I know man, it's crazy how cheap you can grab one used on the market today

How much for the mod?

The Kentucky Fried Death Mod was $500. Besides the preamp/poweramp/powersupply changes, a chassis mounted bias control was added for EL34 or 6L6 operation. Choke was added. A couple of mini switches instead of the mini mod switches. The fx loop is still operational.

So considering what you can pick up a used VTM for, even with a retube, it's a great price point.

Cheers,
Mike

I have a couple of those I have been wanting to try to mod myself. You have just solidified that thought. That is awesome!

This is what a stock one sounds like. With the switches set a certain way, they can be pretty cool. Keep in mind the time frame of when they came out.

Cheers,
Mike

Mike, Cool. That Dave Z dude is a really cool player. I like all of his demo clips he's done for you. Very memorable and catchy. I'll do another clip in a few minutes.

Damn I've never heard of those amps before, the mod sounds wicked!!!
