The mighty Diezel Herbert...

...one of the meanest, most evil sounding high gain amps ever made:

I just got my brand-new Diezel Herbert MkII and Diezel frontloaded 4X12 with V30s. The Herbert was my #1 for about 5 years, a record that is uncontested by most all other high gain channel switching amps. It was that good. I only sold it to try some others, but I'm back and it feels great. The Herbert just has that perfect mix of high and low end, thick tone with clear articulation that puts a smile on your face as soon as you chug out that first power chord. Sort of a combination of a Bogner Uber Blue and a Fryette Ultralead all in one box. Its just so amazing. Hard to put in to words. The KT77s sound great. I wasn't sure I was going to like them. The clean channel sounds as good as my original MkI if not better. It stays clean no matter what. One of the few amps that has 3 distinct, shapeable, and useable channels. Super quiet when playing, and instant silent channel switching. It's a beast. I'm happy.

Congrats. Herbert was #1 on my list of wants for a long time. I just got one a couple months ago and love it.

Nice! I've always wanted to try one, but don't have the coin or a place to play it in. Enjoy! Andy Wood has gotten some of my favourite lead tones out of those things!

The Herbert is a super badass amp. I wish Diezel made a 30w or 50w version.

Best amp there is. For me anyways. I love a set of 6l6s in it.

Thanks guys. This amp flat out kills.

That's what I used to have in my first one. All 6L6GC power tubes and I really liked it. Great heavy rhythm tones. The guy I sold it to hated the sound oddly enough... and switched over to 4 EL34s 2 6550s, which he loved. I'd like to try 6 6550s... but I'm aware that these are not recommended. :(

I had KT88s in mine when i got it and it got SUPER hot. Wouldn't recommend. Really icepicky leads.

Congrats man! HNAD!

I had #18 at one point. Great amp. I miss it at times. I ran 4 KT77s and 2 KT88s. Pretty cool combination.

Diezel is still one of my favorite amps ever made. I can always find a great tone in any of them. The Paul is doing the trick for me right now.

Dude, 180 watts with 6 power tubes... come on boy, not many people need that kind of power. Yeah, funny ha ha. What's so funny about wanting that amp in a more manageable version?

Honestly... and sincerely, the Herbert sounds amazing at TV volume. No attenuator, loadbox, nothing extra needed. I've got the Two Notes Reload and the Herbert sounds just fine on its own. It's one of the best amps for this because of the extra headroom from the 180+ Watt power section. It keeps everything tight at any volume.

True statement. I recently retubed a good buddy of mine's Herbert. It sounded glorious at low volume as well as cranked.

Hear hear, I'm still hoping that Engl will do a Savage/Invader 50W hybrid, 2xEL34, 3 channels.

Sorry but I have a hard time believing that. I've played the Herbert quite a bit and it needs to be louder than a TV. The VH4 and Hagen both had better tone at lower volumes than the Herbert.

I Don't want to thread hijack but I've long considered purchasing the Herbert because many claim it sounds surprisingly good for practicing at low volumes and just the opposite on the VH4 (not sure about the Hagen) , I wish there was a consensus on this because Im really interested in buying one of these but need it to sound good at lower volumes where I play about 60% of the time and sound killer the other 40% when I get the house to myself and can open it up.

Herbert is the best low volume high gain amp ever made in my opinion.

Really?

Well I guess we'll agree to disagree then. I've had a VH4 and thought it was the opposite. The VH4 sounded better louder... it was still a great low volume amp... but the tight bass, and extra low-end (which adds depth and thickness to the sound) from the Herbert was a bit better.

I've only tried the Hagen once... and it was pretty loud. So no comment there.

Your Paul clips sound bad a$$... I may need to pick on up in the future for a different Diezel flavor.

I've heard the first 25 Herberts sounded a bit different... even tighter and a bit more gain if that is possible (defies the laws of physics). Makes me want to hunt one down.
