My buddy who digs ALL the time at thrift stores and flea markets for vintage stuff [tee shirts /records/music gear] texted me if I knew what one of these was worth?
He doesn't play guitar nor is a musician.
I told him 900-1400
he bought it for 250
sold it to me for 500 delivered to my crib 20 minutes after he bought it, today.
it's a beast
I have no idea what year it is and it looks like it was modded?
[see the 2 knobs on the right which have no effect when I twist em]
the only thing wrong with it are that the pots are scratchy.
the effects send and the reverb works as does the channel switching and it came with the 2 og foot switchers.
it has a drake transformer and peavey output tubes as you can see in the pic.
this clip is going thru a 2 x12 in the room to my iphone
I don't remember any jcm 800 I've played thru in the past that snarls and rips like this one.
It's fucking loud - no pedals just straight in...

Congrats! Those can really vary; I had an 83 that was terrible sounding...didn't pay much so I flipped it fast. The later 80s versions sounded best IMO. The way to run those is max the gain and channel volume; then control overall volume with the master. Be careful though; not much taper with the master. The gain and channel volume are both gain knobs for the lead channel.

Congrats, yea they can be all over the place. When I purchased my original head in 87, we opened 5 boxes and found the best sounding one of the batch and there was no doubt it was night and day better than the other 4. Open it up and see what those pots are connected too..

I had an '83 4210 for about a year in high school also. Arguably the WORST amp I've ever owned. I ended up trading it for a Carvin X100B (EL34 carpet version). Value bath, but the ice-pick of the 4210 I had was unbearable.

I've played later 2205's and, yeah, sounds like they got better in the late '80's.

Congrats! Have a 85 2210 that sounds incredible. Enjoy!

different versions. i had a clunker, and a good one as well. the good ones sound awesome through a 4x12.

A friend of mine have one those and boost it with a Zakk Wylde OD.
Man, it crushes!
