NAD: JCM 800 Killer Kali ++

This has been a long time coming: '81 JCM 800 Super Bass with the Killer Kali ++ mod by Dan Gower. The greatest sounding Marshall I've ever seen - it absolutely screams.

Met Dan personally today at his house, and he was a true gentleman, taking the time to talk me through the amp, as well as making time for some general gear/music chat. If you are in the market for a modded Marshall, you simply cannot afford not to consider him. But as we discussed, the amp does modern metal tones more convincingly than many amps that are traditionally designed for it - but with that added Marshall character and bite. It really could do djent if you were uncivilised enough to want to play it.

Now that you mention it, the water I had did taste distinctly of an extra tube gain stage...

Congrats! Would so very much like one of those!

But correct me if i'm wrong. The JCM 800 Bass series isn't like a JMP Super Bass. JCM 800 Bass is actually a bass amplifier and does not sound anyway near a JMP Super Bass.

You're probably right. I refer to it as a super bass kinda by default.

Correct - the power amp section is the same as a 2203, and the mod replaces the majority of the bass preamp section. It's exactly the same as modding a 2203 in terms of tone.

Thanks for the review Charles! It was a pleasure meeting you yesterday and I enjoyed hanging out/talking guitar gear with you as well. It's always awesome getting to meet my customers and I look forward to catching up again soon :rawk:

Hope you have a lot of fun with the Marshall, that amp is so much fun to play. I bet you'll soon be adding a Charvel to your collection too right? :D
