No matter what else I play I'll always be an 80s metal guy so this does it for me. In the honeymoon period I did say "This could possibly be a one-that-does-everything amp. I know that there are other great amps out there that have great & different tones, but I think you could probably coax every tone you *need* out of this one. VERY versatile.", but I do take that back now that I have more time with it. I think the lack of a mid tone control that shapes the mids does keep you from finding anything resembling a Marshally tone. The GEQ doesn't shape the same. Also, the gain is very driven & focused. To get that British sound I think you'd need it to be more loose, and that's not easy to find in this amp. That said if you're looking for the American scooped Mesa tone, this amp kills.
If you want all tones in one amp, go get a Line 6.

I've found with the presence pulled. That's one of the things that seems to tighten it up a lot for rthymns, if you push it in, run the table and bass at noon or so, so they're not adding any gain, presence up around three and midst up around three, you can get some tones that are maybe not Marshall tones. But maybe modded Marshall tones? I've been playing it through an older g12h-30 cabinet here at my house and not my vintage 30 or greenback cabs, so that may have some to do I wth it, but it's a damn nice lower gain rthymns tone regardless.

Oh, I've changed preamp tubes as well. I put in some older Chinese tubes but even some new 9th generation Chinese the high gains or hell even the regular ones will sound a lot better than the shitty jj preamp tubes in it. It's not a night and day blow your socks off difference but it's definitely a worthwhile difference.

Alright, I spent some time today exploring the Shred modes & I found the Mark III tone I was looking for. When you turn shred on I had to pull the treble knobs back, but I ended up leaving the presence where it was. It does also drop some low end chunk but it's fine, just gives it a different character. Shred is *almost* too much with active pickups really hot on the strings! The amount of gain in this amp is insane.

hmmm based on the video attached.. i can tell it sounds pretty much the same way as my mk5 did.. quite far from a full modern sounding amp still or?

I have some cheap headphones I got to use with it on a MF SDotD. The cab clone sounds alright, my issue with the headphone out is that it's pretty quiet & thin. Not sure how much of that is the pair I got. To be honest it's loud enough for my ears, but it feels weird turning a 100w amp volume knob up to 2:00 to get there.
