NAD - Kemper Profiling Amp

I can't see how selling profiles is any different than selling IRs.

So does the Kemper only model itself after the preamp, then you plug into a poweramp and cabinet, or does it do the DI thing too? Simultaneously?

I never got the selling of IRs either. I was never tempted to buy one during the 3 years I gigged my Axe FX.

Selling profiles irks me. It kinda feels like you're making a profit off of the modeled amps' original designers.

Why? A guy as money invested in nice sounding amps amps and speakers plus great gear to record. Also he has spent a lot of time learning to record guitars right. So it makes him an ass for asking to be compensated for his access to good gear, experience and time? You mean to tell me if Bob Rock put out profiles using his experience and gear... you'd expect him to just give those away? Bullshit.

Sell em. If they are really good people will choose buy them or not.

I find it odd guys are bitching about this now but have no problem paying for RedWires and OwnHamers IR's.

Yeah, I'm with you....

Let's put this in perspective....if what people are saying about the Kemper is true, and it's an exact duplication, then you're paying a few bucks for an AMP.....people pay thousands of dollars for ONE good tone....why not a few bucks?

I'm having a hard time seeing the foul...

Or, you could use the Kemper to model the Axe FX models......

Like wiping your ass on a wagon wheel, it just never ends :D

I'm too cheap to buy IRs when there's loads of excellent freebies out there.

If some majorly good pro sounding profiles were done with top both gear and amps I would pay a little. I mean software companies do it all the time. Sell presets, new drum kit add ons etc. but they would have to be pretty stellar cause right now the sharing community is hopping with lots coming in. So I don't see it being lucrative unless they offered something no one else was doing.

I agree. I'm not sure how lucrative it would be either but this butt hurt over someone selling them as if they should ALL just be given away is just nonsense IMHO.

Ironically this forum is predominately conservative in political nature and now with this Kemper some want everyone to just share the wealth. Stalin would be proud. :D

You make a good point. Id see shelling out some coin if a pro like Bob Rock did it but id be hesitant to shell out any money to just some guy :)
People paid 1000s to just some thief, hoping to receive a product or service that they hoped would make them sound good. Why wouldn't some body pay far less for a profile they think will make them sound good?

I'm not getting the frustration at guys making a buck off profiles. I guess if that dude was using all the free ones but not willing to return the favor, I can see that. But if a guy has a killer amp setup, and can mic a cabinet to sound glorious (things not all people have and can do), then why not sell them? It's all his investment, time, equipment, and skills people are paying for...if they are willing to for it that is.

I didn't hear anybody butt hurt. A little miffed, but nothing more, at least in my case.

At any rate, like I said, this window of opportunity will likely be short lived. More profiles being traded every day, so the need will vanish pretty quickly.

There are varying degrees of butt hurt. :D

Serious question.....

So, does the Kemper model the amp at the present settings and that is what the output is or is there more post-modelling EQ/volume settings on the unit?

you can adjust gain (very very wide adjustment) bass, middle, treble, presence and overal volume. this is on the very front a knob grab away. And then if you dig deeper you can adjust other stuff like making the drive more modern or vintage sounding (to me it almost sounds like it would moving the mic on and off axis just a tad) and you can change bass and eq responce of the cab (kinda like moving the mic) these settings are a little more tricky but all of these can dramatically change the sound of the captured profile. its amazing actually. But best to capture the amp in a few settings and gain settings to make it more like the amp..

Gotta tell ya, I am kinda floored at what is coming through my studio monitors when I play this thing, never has a modeler sound so real like there is an actual amp in the chain (for most of them anyway)
