NAD: Low gain, not exciting

Got an early silverface* bandmaster and matching piggyback 2x12 for 300$.

*As in, still the ab763 blackface era circuit

It's not the high gain du jour for rigtalk, but got daym does it sound sexy.

No, I haven't, I'm not a modeling guy except for auxiliary stuff like bass when recording...

but I love me some blondes. And I've heard nothing but good things about brainworx.

But the ab763 circuit is one of my favorite early fenders of all time, super underrated.

I was planning on installing a 3 prong/no death cap-ing it, and flipping it, but Jesus it sounds really good. Power tubes are the big fat old RCA 6L6ED and the cleans are godlike.

I've heard along the lines that if you think a Blackface is a bit too polite,
and the Tweed era's too un-refined, then Blond is the way to go.

Yep, that's a good rule of thumb. I like all of them. Tweed, brown, black, and some of the silverfaces even.

One of the best tone ‘bang for your buck’ are old Fenders….great vintage tone that only needs a pedal in front to do serious damage. Still some deals to be had with late 60s/early 70s silverface amps.

Yep. This is a late 67 or early 68. Same circuit as the blackface bandmaster.

The cleans are amazing, and if you powerstation it and put a simple overdrive in front you'll be surprised at the grit available.

Same. I would rather gig this than the vast majority of modern high gain amps. Perfect power level for gigging and getting a combination of compression and headroom.

He knew it was worth a bit more, I think. Just not a musician, and didn't want to deal with the hassle of selling online + replacing the power cable, etc.

I'm curious to see if it still has the Utah speakers in the cab, but I won't have time to open it up for a while unfortunately.
