Ohh and if your using a boogie 4x12 double tap the cab with 2x4 ohm instead of 1x8 speaker cable. I really dont know why but the big boogie cabs sound better that way to me. Especially older heads but still with newer ones too.
Interesting, I might have to try that with my Mark IV.

Killer amp, Congrats brother. Go to the mark 7 mode on channel two but crank the Mid's to 100 percent like you would treble on the c+ channel. Adjust the other to taste, Its built differently and you get more of a recto gain type thing out of it that way. This amp has so many cool things.
Love it. Enjoy man

I'm doing the same but with the crunch mode on channel 2. It gets surprisingly close to my jcm 800

Congrats!!! I sold my mark IV"B" back in 2014 (which I regret doing every day)
and now I find myself having serious "Mark" gas again
the prices on IV's have gone through the roof so I've started looking at the 90Watt V and the VII
anyone here have both and can tell me the differences? (I don't think the VII setting would be a big selling point to me)
I'm more curious as to which amp does the IIC+ and Mark IV modes better and which one is more versatile?
is the VII really a grand better than the 90W V?

Do you crank the mids with the knob or the EQ to do this?
I crank the mid knob. From what I understand (which is probably completely wrong) the knobs are almost like a cascaded gain for the pre eq section. So pushing the mids and treble to make it distort sort of like an older style Marshall was what I was shooting for. So far it seems to be working pretty well. Here's a picture of where I had my settings for the second channel. This is through a v30 loaded cab

I owned a V for a couple of years, a while back so take all of this with a grain of salt. I did not like the V. It was good a several things but I never really found it to be great at anything. This could have been completely user error but I tried it with several different cabs/pickups etc and just felt like it fell sort. I now have a VII and have loved it so far. For me it delivers on what the V was trying to do. Also between the two I owned a red strip mark III++. I like the VII as much as the red stripe and it has way more options.

Great to hear the VII can hang with the mk4 and mk3's! I bought a mk4 back in the early 00's for 800 Canadian....and regret selling that amp!

I traded for a mk5 back in 2020, and while it was a good amp, it definitely was not a great amp. The biggest let down for me, was that it's actual Mark channel was a weak point of the amp. It did a good job of copping the tone, but compared to my actual mk4, it was very compressed, small and lacked the rawness and punch an older Mark has when playing them. My favorite channel on the 5 was actually the Crunch channel.

I may be in the minority but I love my Mark V:25. Like you, it's my first Mesa amp but I absolutely love it. Edited to say Welcome to the family and congratulations!

I just got a mesa mark VII, I also have an old road King 2 (series 2). It is amazing, I really love the cleans compared to the RK (which I may have messed up by changing preamp tubes), and I really like the crunch+II+IV modes.

You're not in the minority. ;-)
I sold a Mark IV Rev A...and *then* I got the V:25 later. If the Mark IV's R2 channel was basically the Mark V:25's awesome Crunch mode, I could've died a happy man with just that amp.

Well I got my hands on another Iv so the V is not even in the picture any longer. the VII intrigues me, I'd love to A/B one to my IV.
My R2 surprisingly has a good amount of gain (much more so than my old "A" did), very usable as a rhythm channel.

HNAD!!! ? No new Mesas in Europe since 2021 or so. I used to own a Triaxis/2:Ninety/412 oversized recto cab rig so would love to try the MKVII and JP2C out. :)
