Wasn't expecting another New Amp Day, but when is it ever "really" expected anyway?

The bad boy on the top is the newest addition. 1981 Marshall JCM 800 2204 with 4 inputs. Although I thought I knew the deal on this amp, apparently I don't. There's no distortion! What there is though is one of the cleanest shimmery beautiful clean sounds I've ever heard. From a F#@K!NG Marshall...are you kidding me? lol. I'm at a loss for words. I don't know if this is normal or stock but I'm blown away. I'll open it up soon to see if a mod has been made. If anyone can chime in that would be great. In the meantime I'll just enjoy this amazing clean, dare I say better than Fender (FML) sound? Jeeze!

marshalls are the only amplifiers i can 100% completely understand an instantaneous purchase.

some of them just sound fucking great. others dont.

its kind of like gibsons - another brand where sometimes they are spot on and other times hit or miss.

congrats on finding a keeper bro

Yup, I had the same 4 input JCM800... Best cleans I heard out of a Fender, although I sold it because it didn't have enough gain AND it had to be pushed to the limits to deliver. I didn't feel like modding it for master volume and stuff...

 Ohh Yaa....Very nice!! Can never go wrong with a Marshall  Congrats

thats not a 2204 i dont think, it appears to be either a 1987 cirucuit or 1959 that were made under the jcm 800 series but didnt sell that good which is why u dont see that many, they are non master volume style and have much less gain and have to be cranked to get some crunch. It also appears that they were not usa import originally as they dont have rocker switches , usually the canadian imports are the ones with toggles instead of rocker switches. Those can be modded for more gain or changed to 2204 circuit easily.

I totally get ya. They don't break the bank and they do what they do so well. I'm just recently starting to re-discover their need and how great they can be. As far as it being a keeper, that's always debatable. Gear whoring FTW! lol

Congrats! Clips!!

If there was was that would entice me to make clips it's this one. I'm just not set up at the moment. The studio build is messy lol

Glad to hear I'm not crazy lol. It sounds great but it's a completely different beast than the other 2204 I had and of course my 2203.

I actually would have thought it was a 1987 model as well but it's clearly stamped 2204 on the back, which is what threw me off. And yes it's definitely Canadian import, that I knew from the toggle switches.

I'm sure this amp would provide a great platform for mods. Not sure if I'll go that route or sell it. I didn't need a "clean" Marshall but it does sound so damn good! Lots to think about.

What does it say beneath the 2 pots to the right?

Congrats!

yep 1987. I love these amps. I have a 1959 that is my main amp. Your pedals will never sound better. Mine is amazingly loud. Really, no joke, it shakes the walls severely. FYI, 800 1959 is what Sykes had modded by Jose. Mine is completely stock. I run a simple pedalboard into the front and it kills. And I agree the cleans are awesome. I run a jumper for the 2 channels. You can then use ch 1 vol to dial in spank or briteness, then use ch2 vol to dial in girth/chunk. Great amps.
