What does it say beneath the 2 pots to the right?

Congrats!

They're both volumes, controlling input 1 (high / low) and input 2 (high / low) individually.

yep 1987. I love these amps. I have a 1959 that is my main amp. Your pedals will never sound better. Mine is amazingly loud. Really, no joke, it shakes the walls severely. FYI, 800 1959 is what Sykes had modded by Jose. Mine is completely stock. I run a simple pedalboard into the front and it kills. And I agree the cleans are awesome. I run a jumper for the 2 channels. You can then use ch 1 vol to dial in spank or briteness, then use ch2 vol to dial in girth/chunk. Great amps.

It's stamped 2204 on the back plate though. I know it's set up like a 1987 but wouldn't it be stamped that if it was? It definitely threw me off. I found a few things online where guys are talking about the exact setup as this one, labeled 2204 but with 4 inputs. Still one cool sounding amp though!

I love the toggles, and they're bullet proof too. Good ol' Canadian electrical standards hehe.

It has distortion, you just have to turn it up to ear bleeding levels. It's a non-master, just like a superlead (which are typically very clean until they get insanely LOUD.).

Strange about the 2204 stamp. The 2204s were the 50 watt master volumes.

I would guess that no matter if it says 2204 on the back- it probably is the 1987 circuit and not the 2204 as the 2204 would have just 1 master vol and a preamp vol and two inputs where yours is a 4 holer with just two volumes. It probably says 2204 because they are the same chassis and trannies etc , its just that the 2204 has a different faceplate that covers the 4 chassis inputs only showing and using 2. Thats a sweet amp either way so nice score. I dig the toggles, I once owned a canadian silver jubilee with the toggles.

Very nice amp for sure. I lean towards what joepete77 posted. :yes:
Either way, get yourself an attenuator, and a few good pedals... ;)
Then get back to us on your idea of moving it or keeping it. :rock:

As others have stated, I would think less about the 2204 stamped on the chassis as it is clearly a 1987 circuit. NMV amps were not popular at all when that was made and they probably used 2204 chassis without changing the model numbers in order to move some product. My best guess.

I had a JCM 800 1959 that was killer. Loud as hell and really clean to boot. I ran my JMP-1 preamp through the front of it for years as my main gigging rig. Sounded killer. Sold it to someone here, can't remember who.

2203=master volume 100 watt
2204=master volume 50 watt
1959=non master 100 watt
1987=non master 50 watt.

Hey guys! I finally cracked 'er open and here's what I found. I was happy to see some Drake's in this bad boy! It's really clean too...I haven't wiped 'er down yet.

Spent some quality time with the new Marshall earlier tonight. I'm in LOVE! Ran jumpered, got all sorts of beautiful tones. Very bluesy, punchy, with great resonance and sustain. I'm still kind of baffled. I'm not used to a Marshall sounding like this. So glad I scored this beauty.

Took a family pic of most of my current amps afterward, thought I'd share here rather then make a new thread. Sold off many amps in the last year so it's fun the see things come to shape again. I think there's a healthy blend of tones here.
