NAD: Mesa Royal Atlantic 2x12 combo w/custom tolex

I've been extremely interested in the Royal Atlantic since Mesa first released it. Just got her today and so far so good. Thick like a Mesa should be with more upper mids for a Marshally flavor. Great cleans to boot.


What can I say...I'm a SUCKER for Boa/Snakeskin tolex.

Have you played the Electra-Dyne? I liked the ED much more...thinking I need to try the RA again though. Next time I'm at a GC I'm gonna find one and try it again.

I like both amps. The Royal has a few "upgrades" over the ED. Independent clean channel, power soak, more gain, and a MUCH MUCH more user friendly master volume. They're voiced a little different as well. I've had my ED for a few years now and still dig it but I BOOST the snot out of it and for a combo it sounds huge. The Royal has the same combo box and speaker setup so Mesa really digs this combo setup, I sure do.

If both amps were the same price I'd go Royal, but I bought the ED before the Royal came out and it cost me $900 so I can't complain. I'd love to own both and run them with stereo effects.

I'm thinking bad tubes might have been to blame? I really didn't dig the RA I played and I feel like I should have. I LOVE the ED so it doesn't make sense. Gotta find another one and give it a go.

After hearing both amps together, they are each killer in their own right, but I do prefer the mids that the RA has. It's much more in the Marshall camp (typical EL34 vs 6L6). Plus, as Danny mentioned the RA's Master Volume is MUCH more usable than the ED's. I do like all 3 channels on the RA allot. Mesa did a GREAT job with this amp. Not knocking the ED as well as it is a great sounding amp and costs a fraction of the RA.

No, I got this one at a local dealer. It was brand new I got a pretty sweet deal on it (almost as cheap as the used on on GC). If anyone wants details you can PM me.
