Dude that sounds absolutely abolishing

Really like what i am hearing. Very modern sounding and it looks like its built like a brick shithouse

Love the headshell swap too, matches the character of the amplifier perfectly.

Sounds like it tracks great and does the new dropped tuning as well - it seems to handle it all. clean roll backs, lower tunings, fast tracking, me likely

Lead times? Are these one of the amplifiers that if you have to ask how much its too much?

Also what pre/powers? Just curious, cant make them out in the pictures

thanks for the vids man. crushing tone and playing, brudder. confirm....if i was asking peters for a single channel, you would suggest the chimera for me, correct? also tell me where you are setting the gain knob on these clips. and have you tried a decimator in the loop yet?

thinking about getting a run to colorado, and hitting you up for some face time.

(note...one of my subs was hijacked by juggernaut. he took it to amarillo, to test with the ccv. starting to worry i wont get it back.lol)

Right on man, thank you. James has really got some real winners in the lineup, this chimera is no exception. You would really have to give Mr.Peters a call on lead times as of now.
I payed right at the 3K mark including shipping.
My pres are a mix of 9th gen chinese,Penta and Ruby. Powers are Penta SC88 KT88's. I am still messing around with different combinations.

Right on Martin, thanks bro.

Based on what you said you like I would go Chimera but a call to James would be your best bet. He is very knowledgeable and easy to talk to on the phone. :) The gain in those clips was right at about 50%. MORE than enough gain on tap. I have not tried decimator in the loop, I should try that. Although it is much quieter in the room, camera kinda makes it's own unperceived noise.
Yeah man, hit me up anytime you wanna come hang. You would be welcome.
I have another sub at practice space too. Lol

Now you need to send me that Chimera to try out for a week or two ;)

Excellent clip  I've listened/watched part 1 a couple of times and really like the tone I hear. Haven't gotten to part II yet   Both Peters are really good sounding man; congrats.

I'm sure that can be arranged. You may have to send me a CCV though. :gethim:

Thanks for the compliment man. I really like having both....probably need a third.

Hey dudes,

I have yet to do a new amp day for my Peters Chimera/FSM. It's a dual lead professional series from James. I have had it for a month or so and have been too busy to post it up.

My first impression is that the Chimera is very tight. Think like VHT Ultra Lead tight but not near as dry and more saturated. Bigger bottom end as well. James has modded the EQ a bit from the older Chimera's. The mids are crystal clear and cut through like no other amp I have heard. It really is not fair to compare this to other amps I have owned or tried out. It is devastating in the mix. I can literally shit all over the other guitarist in my band if I feel the need. The overall tone is razor sharp. It seems to have a touch more upper mids than the Hydra. The Hydra seems to shine in the lower mids to my ears. The Hydra is a touch looser overall. The bottom end seems to blossom out more. The mids are smoother and more rounded on the Hydra.

One thing about Peters amps in general is that they have such a clarity to them that I have yet to experience in other amps. This of course is just my opinion but it's really hard to play other maps and not feel that they are muddy in comparison. Maybe it's my style of playing/guitars/cabs or whatever but in the room the Peters amps dominate (or can be dialed in to dominate).

The FSM channel is less gain than either the Hydra or Chimera but can still bring some serious bidness. Less of a bottom end hit and much smoother gain structure. I have yet to really play a bunch on this channel yet. What I have found out about the FSM is that it really sounds freakin killer with my 7 string. I feel the 7 string sounds better with lower gain. It's also fun to dial the gain down and play classic rock type of stuff. The cool thing about Peterses is that they are not overly compressed and you can achieve a really nice clean tone just from the volume on the guitar. This is no easy task considering I use EMG 81 pretty exclusively.

The Hydra is still more my style over the Chimera but it is really.......really close. It's splitting hairs for the most part. I would be happy with either amp. The build quality is second to none imo. Taking a peek inside reveals the attention to detail. The dude knows how to build amps and is not unpleasant to talk to on the phone. He has a customer for life.

It's not the greatest but I woke up and pressed record. This is what came out. My camera kinda sucks. Volume up and down, could be much better quality. You get the general idea. Sounds much different in the room.

If you skip to around 11min I use the guitar to clean it up. I suck at that stuff but was trying to show on massive gain channel it can clean up even with actives.

I swapped head shells because I think it looks better but this is the way I originally ordered both amps. It's cool because i can switch back at any time.

Sounds excellent

I noticed that one is loaded with EL34 and the other KT88. Have you tried to AB them when they were loaded with the same output tube types? Just curious.
Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike, thanks for checking it out. I really like Gold lion Kt77's in the Hydra so I loaded up the same tubes in the Chimera and ran both amps with the 77's at the same time. It sounded great. The power tube changes are subtle but are there. I liked the 77's and 88's in the Chimera. I am still experimenting, will throw some EL34's in next. I feel the amp has taken very well to whatever power tube I throw at it. I am mostly a EL34 family type of guy. The Hydra really shines with KT77's but it sounds pretty damn good with whatever. It's nice having external bias points.

Send me a Natas so I can a/b them.   I promise I won't be biased(no pun intended).
