My dual channel Halo/GNL came in today and holy crap, guys. Holy. Crap.

It has that guttural flutter that I've always been looking for. It sounds like some kind of primeval, growling jungle cat. If this amp were a car, it'd sound like this ;)

In comparison, the Hydra sounds more refined. It can get a little growl too. But not as much. Low end seems a little tighter on the Hydra (as much as a 50 watter can). Sharper highs too. GNL is much more primal. Single notes are a little more round. Hydra has more saturation. But GNL a bit more clear/articulate. I've never heard another guitar amp that sounds like this. Ever. It's thick and meaty and mean and sounds like a tiger is about to jump out of my speakers.

I confused
OK. Glad I'm not the only one

What, your amp doesn't sound like a supped up 6.2L V8? Weird.

Any actual clips of the amp?? The car does sound great though;)

That car sounds like crap. How about something that actually makes some power, that sounds good.

You're comparing a stock, factory car with a dragster? Makes sense. ;) By that logic, that truck sucks. How about we compare it to something with some real power, like the space shuttle.

:hys: That is pretty damn funny.

Back to this GNL. Clips or it never happened. \:D/

Seriously what he said ^^^^^^^

Always dug your clips and I feel like we have similar taste in tone as well... love a good amp that has a nasty growl to it... post that shit man! Video!!!

Must have pics!!! :gethim:
Congrats and welcome to the GNL club.
Love mine.

Yep that's why I didn't gel with the Hydra and ended up having it modded to sound more like the Gryphon. I was missing that tasty thick growl that the Gryphon has in the lows and mids, and also the more articulate highs.
The Hydra grunts rather than growls, and has thicker, squared-off highs. Just didn't work for my tastes and the way I play.

Yeah I can see it. The Hydra I have is a little different than the newer ones too. Slight voicing change. A little less of a low-end emphasis. More mids. More aggressive.

Your videos and tunes were what made me go for the GNL. I was also thinking of the FSM. Tough decision. I might sell the Hydra and get a single channel FSM. Or hell... Chimera. It's hard. I want them all.

Pics and vid to come shortly.

Congratulations! Can't wait to hear clips. Is the GNL based on the Gryphon, or is it more related to the Hydra?

From what I understand, it's akin to a boosted Gryphon. It's voiced quite differently compared to the Hydra.

Awesome! :)
You'll have to do some comparison clips.

The Chimera and the Vega give me serious GAS for a Peters Triple Channel.
Too bad I can't afford it.

Some pics. Haven't gotten around to recording clips yet.
