NAD Peters Gryphon Part II (Clip added: Fade to Black)

Alright here's the clip. I did Fade to Black (Metallica). Just the intro, a bit of the verse, and my version of the chorus/ending.
This amp is incredible. Best clean I've heard on a high gainer. Sounds like a Jazz Chorus without the reverb or chorus...
Overdrive channel: Awesome and unique. Its like what a Mark Series amp should be. Better mids and less compressed than a mark series. I hate describing amps with words. Its like a bridge between a VHT Ultralead and a Mark Series amp. VHT tone but can get that extra bit a saturation you need :D Nice, nice amp.

I don't think these clips do the amp justice, but I get an idea of the overall vibe.

Why is the noise floor so high?

Cause I suck at recording? I'm no pro engineer.

Aaaack. You're killin' me, man! Rather, you're killin' my bank account!
And I definitely hear what you mean about the Mark/UL cross...it sounds badass!

I didn't say you sucked at all. The noise floor being that high isn't normal, and it's not something YOU did to make it happen.

What is your signal chain? I'd love to help you isolate the noise.

Fuck, it is that unique voicing I am attracted to. When u hit a power chord it is all there. Fuckin nice :worship:

I have tried so hard to make a decent clip. I want to do my amps justice and I'm something of a perfectionist, but I don't have any experience recording, besides the few hours I've tried to get a naked, unmixed recording of my amps to sound the way they do in the same room. Why does it have to be so difficult?

:codeak: ups sucks ass. I get more damaged shit from those guys. Not to mention leaving high dollar items unattended. Anyway congrats, again. Now with one more amp out of the way he can move on to building mine

Not that Fed Ex is the answer but there is a reason why their rates are a bit higher than UPS. Cause they actually are "somewhat careful with our gear".

Good point. It just seems everything I recieve is ups. Cabs come damaged, head boxes look as though they have been tossed out of the back of the truck and dragged for a while. Then they tell u some bullshit about how is was packaged poorly. Somehow they think if they packaged themselves it would have survived. I have heard the horror stories of having the ups store package a tube amp in peanuts and arrive destroyed. Never, ever, ever use these fucktards to package anything! Have had to make one claim, they paid it but, it was a fight. Hardly see people Fed Ex or DHL. Or USPS for that matter. Would like to see people use some other carriers sometime. But, in their defense, I have recieved items poorly packed. People are lazy or stupid. :gethim:

That sounded great. Loved the tone you're getting...not super saturated but plenty of sustain. I didn't notice too much noise...that's what happens when you get that much gain.

Sounds huge!

Congrats man and HNAD!
The Gryphon ended all amp GAS for me.
And I agree about James' Halo clean channel.
It's the best clean channel I've had the pleasure of playing.

Interesting that you mention the VHT UL.
I hear similarities in the VHT Deliverance myself.
Can get that dry VHT attack with more saturation.

Which EL34's and what preamp tubes are you running?
Also, what cab and speakers are you using?

Sounds great and congrats! One of my favorite songs!!

I was wondering when you would chime in!!! I'm just using the EH tubes james sent with the amp. Running it thru a Mesa Traditional 4 x 12 with V30s. Cool amp indeed...

Haha. Yeah between work and caring for our 10 month old boy, I barely get the time to post these days.

For my tastes the Gryphon gets along perfectly with V30's or similar speakers.
I'm using a 2x12 with a mix of WGS Veteran 30 and WGS British Lead.
Sounds really balanced and smooth yet still aggressive with the Gryphon.

PM me when you feel like swapping tubes.
I've tried quite a few EL34 and 12AX7 brands with my Gryphon, so I might be able to give you some helpful info.

Another thing you probably noticed is the Gryphon really brings out the tonal character of your guitar/pickups.
What guitar/pickup combos have you used so far?
