Finally pulled the trigger on one of these a few months ago. Really loving it.

Holy shit. This looks amazing. I want one.

Thanks guys. I know I've posted about it before but can't get over how great this amp is IMO.

All my tubes are stock. Not sure if the 12ax7 preamps are JJ's or not. They say 12AX7 China on them.

Ah...no Chinese are not the same as JJ's. Did you get your brand new or used? I bought mine used so not sure what it comes with stock but since all 5 are the same thing I'm pretty sure this is what it came with. They all say JJ in red on them and all look brand new. I am wondering if a different kind of preamp glass would be any kind of improvement of an already great amp....

I'm guessing since you bought yours used someone changed out the stock preamps. Mine was bought new and I've heard Mike prefers and recommends the Chinese preamps. Not sure why. I guess that is what he uses and likes how they sound. I'm happy with the tone so I probably won't change any of mine out until they need changed.

Cool, I need to change mine and see. Actually sounds great with the JJ's and they look brand new.

Another question, do you get some white noise thru the speakers regardless of volume? I can turn mine all the way down and there is still more hiss than I would expect. Thanks

No, not much hiss at all. Mine is actually really quiet even with the volume around 4-5. I checked with the volume all the way down and it's completely silent.

Probably something minor, like a tube or ground interference.

Any of you guys (UberschallEl34, RG955T, etc..) have any settings that you found you absolutely loved and was your sweet spot for high gain? Just tweaking and trying different settings. A lot of tones in this amp. The controls seem pretty sensitive to minor movements.

For rockin stuff I have gain at 6.5, bass at 9, mids at 4 and treble at 3 with presence at 5 (settings on the amp not o'clock) but Im playing it right now at really low volume...still sound thick and killer and thumps pretty good too...

For higher gain I'd boost with a Mesa Flux or OD808, so that's my personal taste to get the amp tighter for chuggy riffs. I ran presence at 11:00, bass at 3:00, mids at noon, treble at 1:00 and gain around 2:00. I'd run the volume at 2:00 or so, of course it sounded fine from 10:00 on up. With a 412 or a good 212 you'll be pushing air pretty good. FYI - when I boost on a high gain setting I'm not adding gain with the pedal, level up/gain low on the boost, it tightens the low end attack and adds some sweet midrange - the HR25 is a great amp for boost pedals.

Those settings are very similar to mine at the moment RG.

Gain-6
Bass-7
Mids-5
Treble-3
Presence-6

Sounds great at lower volumes. Cranked the volume up to around 5 earlier (pretty loud) and those settings sounded really amazing. Super thick and chunky with a lot of low end thump but still super articulate. Every note really pops.

Very cool Uber. It definitely pushes some air with the low end. I tried a Boss SD-1 with mine and liked it. I've been using it some with and some without. Sounds great either way. The boost does tighten it up more. Would like to try some different boosts and maybe a reverb or delay pedal.

This !!! Every note just pops. The higher notes in chords are just singing....This thing nails the 1984 VH sound of you like that with nothing added other than some verb!

1984 is my fav VH sound. Does this amp really get that?

If you want that, the Splawn Pro Mod or Quick Rod will do that in spades.

Went to a friend's place this morning and we played his HR25 back to back with my old SLOr.
Good gawd the HR25 sounds incredible. One of the best sound amps I've heard in my entire life.

The differences with the SLO are subtle if you A-B them back to back. To my ear the HR25 sounds a bit sweeter and smoother; the SLO has a minimal amount of more gain and is slightly more aggressive and sizzly sounding. The SLO might be a tad better for high gain metal (Zakk, Rhandy Rhoads, Lynch) but the HR25 certainly can do that quite well. Again, the differences are subtle. If you bough the HR25 and are wondering how much it gives up to the SLO....very very little. Grains of sand.

If I had to start from scratch I'd get the HR25. The SLO does have the clean/crunch switch but the HR has a better loop per Internet lore. I did not check out the loop this morning
