Got this last night at 9 pm. UPS driver was driving a U-Haul truck.  She said deliveries were up 80% and they didn't have enough trucks. Amazingly it made it from Florida to Washington state completely intact. Played it for a few minutes last night at low volume but had a chance to turn it up today. I had a Competition years ago and really liked it so I tried, but couldn't resist trying one again.
Here is a quickie clip.

It's definitely a cool amp. I might try some EL34's in it since it currently has KT77s. I like KT77s, but just for the hell of it. So this Splawn has a thicker even beefier tone than some of my other amps. Also with that thickness it's a little nicer/less raw. It sure does like my PLX Bion Boost. Fuck it sounds killer with the Bion. I will say that I think it sounds better to me in a higher tuning than I normally use(drop B). Definitely sounds better to me in Drop D or Drop C. With Drop B I think it really sounds better with a boost.

Update.
Okay, so here is gear 2 (OD1) with the gain just shy of 1 O'clock boosted with my PLX Bion Boost. Pretty conservative setting on the boost with the Gain and Boost at noon and the Tone knob at 1 O'clock.

Its thicker because of the KT77's! They bring the chunk!

Don't forget the loop level on the back. It's still active if the loop is engaged, and no effects in it. If you're not using the loop, turn it off. But, be careful. It'll blow your hat off. I think you'll be shocked how loud that SOB is!

I personally loved Gear 1 boosted with my VFE Dragon. Killed.

Yeah, I'm always looking at Splawns. I LOVED mine. I would love a mini 50w with all the bells/whistles. I have a JJ100 and love it, but am always trying new, or old, things.

Congrats on the amp, man! Dug the clip.

Sounds great, very aggressive. Is that with the Bion Boost engaged?

What year is that Comp and does it have the Loop MV? I struggled to get my 100w with Loop MV to get the tone I wanted on the smaller stages, but the loop master worked well, but not well enough, and that's my only real gripe about the Splawns.

As a gigging guitarist, everyone is walking in with floor modelers and I'm still bringing in 50w heads. Even some of the larger stages want the volume low, so it's like, WTF? ...I digress.

Back to your NAD and let us know how you're doing with the volume of the beast. Cheers!

Great sounding Competition. Nice sizzle. I love my EL34 2018 fully loaded Quickrod. So versatile.

Nope. I didn't use a boost in this clip.

Yeah the 77s are cool, but I have a pair of 34's I'll try too just to compare. I agree with Gear 1 boosted. The VFE Dragoon boost I had a while back was for sure my second favorite boost ever. I thought it worked best with a lower gain setting. I'll make another clip with a boost later today.

It's a 2018, I sold it to him. The loop volume worked flawlessly for me. I ran an RP1000 in the loop, and had a volume pedal to boot. I ran the master at about 10:00, (which is loud as hell), but lowered the loop volume. That, and the volume pedal, I had cranked, thick tones, at very low levels. The loop volume is a godsend. Hit the sweet spot on the master, (I found 10:00 was it), and adjust the loop volume to taste. Worked beautifully.

I have a pair of JJ E34L's I can send you to try. I had them in there for a bit, and they sounded killer too. Not as round as the KT's, but still aggressive and tight. Very immediate attack, a tad brighter, and more high midrange presence.

Sounds great, Bubba! What speakers? V30’s? Got that same aggressive growl as your Molecular clips.

Sounds killer! Splawns are very aggressive with a very unique saturation to the gain structure...at least the two QRs I've owned.

Sounds great! Love the percussive attack you're getting there.
What guitar/pickups you using?

Thanks man. Speaker is a Peavey Sheffield 1200 from an old 5150 cab. So I just got done doing a 90 second clip of the Splawn, Molecular and VTM60. All of them boosted with my PLX Bion Boost. They all sound killer to me. The Splawn sounds absolutely glorious with the boost. It's aggressive but has a less raw sound.

Totally serious too. It's been my main guitar for about 8 or 9 years. Only modification is yanking out the tone knob and wood veneer on the pick guard.

Boosted clip. Gear 2 (od1) with the gain knob at 1 O'clock.
