Rarely, if ever a used Wizard pops up down under so when this one did I couldn't resist. MTL100, about 5 years old I believe. It arrived with a broken EL34 which is a bummer, got get a new quad in.

For those that have played an MC and MTL, got a favourite?

I’m more into MTL2. It’s my favorite amp ever . I use it for metal but get great plexi old school sounds with thise knobs as well . Definitely classic tones in it too . I got my red and gold . Lol she looks cool too lol

Congrats on the new amp. I’ll be curious to hear what you think. I have an MC I and an MTL II. Love them both. Just different from each other. I was playing my MTL today and forgot just how damn good it is. Both are different enough to be worth having. Even though I use a lot of hot rodded Marshall style amps for metal (Fortin Cali, silver jubilee, Landry), the MC is used almost exclusively for rock tracks and is my go to amp for that. The MTL gets used for tight metal tones. Obviously both can be used for either but that tends to be my instinct with each of them.

Yep I'll find some tubes and report back. So the MTL II has the sweep knob right? Is it much of an addition?

So I haven’t played an MTL 1 without it, but I use the sweep knob a lot—much more than I thought. It really changes the voicing of the amp in really versatile ways and it’s easy to make it sit in a mix without having to EQ ITB. That amp has so many damn switches to change the voicing (bright, presence, depth, sweep) that you can really change the hype of all these different frequencies. It’s almost overwhelming.

OK found some tubes for this thing - it absolutely rips. As expected the Lead channel is phenomenal - tight, searing and punchy. But man that Rhy channel, holy shit. Not tonnes of gain as it comes, but with the boost on and the MV up real high it sounds incredible. I think it's the best 2203 style drive I've heard in a non-vintage 2203 before, it's just perfect.

Quite different to the MC all-round so a worthy addition.

That's awesome dude, congrats! Had a 50 watt MTL that just slayed. I imagine the 100 blows those walls down. ?
