NAD: VHT/Fryette Deliverance 120

Did a quick search on here, and it got some love, so I pulled the trigger.

Even with the amps in your sig, the Deliverances measure up just fine...great clarity and thump. I always say they are the best deal used, when considering tone for the dollar.

Hell, I bought my Fryette d120 brand new, with the masterbuilt series. I got 15% off from black fri last year, which helped me jump.
I took a blind leap, from a few trusted folks here. Glad I did. It’s worth every penny.
It’s a sledgehammer, with amazing cut and clarity.

Agree, this little monster has pushed it's way into the stable and ain't going anywhere.
It's extremely well built, with big iron and quality components everywhere. I def shoulda' paid A LOT more for what I got back in amplifier. Just from a quality build standpoint, it's very similar to all of the PCB based Bogners I've owned.
But here's the kicker: Steven Fryette and his group are a class act!
Seriously helpful and fast communication and support. I contacted them asking about the FX loop mod and foot-switchable Less/More. I explained that I was in Canada and didn't really want to ship the amp. A few emails and some Paypal $$ were exchanged, and everything I needed to do the mods showed up in the mail a couple days later.
This is Friedman level of customer support here folks
After this, I would absolutely not hesitate to buy another anything from these guys.

Yeah its a killer amp...Just got one recently also, one of the Masterbuilt series , so it already has the loop and the "more" switch mods but what a clear sounding amp under high gain . Also very ballsy and big sounding like others have mentioned.

I bought the FX loop kit from them and will have it installed locally in the next couple weeks. However when I asked about the more/less mod they said they couldn’t provide parts or instructions. I found a parts list and instructions from someone in a Fryette/VHT group on Facebook but I did find it odd they wouldn’t help me with that. This was just a couple weeks ago.

OK so this is kinda strange, to say the least.
My first enquiry to them was to ask for details on purchasing the FX loop board ( I had found info on-line that they were making it available to purchase ).
In the same email, I asked if they could provide any info about the foot-switchable Less / More mod, and THEY OFFERED to include the jack and wiring harness for the mod along with the FX loop board. They didn't even charge me for the jack and cable assembly

By the way, probably a good call to have a pro tech install the FX loop board. It's a VERY tight fit in the corner of the chassis. I've got 30+ years experience in fabrication and repair of automated process equipment, and installing that loop was challenging to say the least. You need to layout 6 holes, and they all need to be in PERFECT alignment or you are gonna have issues fitting the board into the chassis.
Conversely, the less / more switch is a breeze. They gave me a new multi cable that replaces the stock cable connecting the pre board to the power board. The new harness has one extra wire that you run over to one lug of the less / more switch. The foot switch jack connects to 2 un-used points on the power PCB.

Yeah I rolled all kinds of tubes in the pre and power section. EH KT88's sounded the best to me. I tried a set of Tung-Sol 6550's, and they were OK, but I had them already. I wouldn't suggest you drop the cash on a new quad of em'.
Interestingly, there is a manual available for the Deliverance and Fryette gives you a list of the recommended tubes for each position. Not surprisingly, the amp sounded best to me loaded with exactly what he specifies in the manual.
When I got the amp, it had JJ everything and sounded kinda meh to be honest. I swapped everything to the Fryette specs, and BOOM there it was.
I tried a bunch of stuff after that, but just kept coming back to the recommended config.

I tried some preamp tubes and like what manual suggest best. I find this true with most amps. Whatever tube the amp is designed around usually works best.

I sent a follow up email asking again about the more/less mod and they are sending out the more/less kit free of charge because I already bought the effects loop kit. I was more than happy to pay for the parts and instructions but pleasantly surprised!

I checked with Fryette first, and when I found out it was OK I ordered a pair of KT90s for my D60...if you ever wanted a HUGE sounding EL34 that is the tube...plenty of low end thump with the mids of a 34.

I don’t even know that I would call it an “issue”. Most likely the guy I communicated with just didn’t know. They responded to my follow up email in just a couple hours and sending it for free was certainly a nice touch!
