Well,

What I can say. Most of you know all about these amps. I don't think I need to write a review on it but I'm happy to answer any questions. I got it a while ago so the honeymoon phase is over. I'm still in love with it. I think I will keep her. There is Amp Pr0n below

What: Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier Solo 50 MKII Rectoverb

Where: Gu1tar Center used

Cost: $490

Why: Why not

(for some reason rigtalk highlighted 'guitar center' as a URL LOL)

Seriously always wanted a Mesa and when this popped up for $590 it caught my eye. The reverb doesn't work well so I talked them down to $490. It is in really good shape otherwise as you can see by my pics. The handle is torn but I don't lug things around as I'm just a basement rocker. There is a clip in my signature doing clean, vintage, raw, modern etc. I run the Pre around 2 oclock, Volume around 10 oclock and Solo around 9 or 10 oclock. I dig the Solo knobs - there is one on my Splawn too. My plan is to put EL34s in it tomorrow and do some more preamp tube swapping. I think it rounds out my collection fairly well.

Here are some pics

Thanks for stopping into my thread

I had one for a while . Gigged it. Great amp.
Congrats!

IMO the Recto Verbs are the best sounding of all the Rectos! Congrats. Great score

Thanks guys!

:rawk:

sounds ballin' thru the Splawn cab with Smallblocks!

fo sho....

No more love for the Single Rec?

Does anyone on here have one currently? I got to get the reverb problem figured out and I'm not very technical.

Cleaned up nice; thanks for the guts.

Love Single Recs dude; for some reason they sound/feel meaner to me than others. You got a sick price too. HNAD!

Thanks Crunchtime and Steinmetzify!

Ben - I rolled a JAN Phillips 5751 through with some good success. I need to get another one of these as I pulled it out of my Quick Rod. These tubes work really well in the PI and Input. Otherwise, I'm sticking with my JJ pre's.

I DID however try some Mullard EL34s in the Recto and wow was that nice. I might leave those in there. I know some people claim that you can't hear the difference in power tubes but it was pretty noticeable. Not a huge difference mind you but enough to take notice. The EL34's had more cut and snarl. I suppose that is expected. I'm also aware that that could be my brain playing tricks on me.

Anyone else run EL34s in their Rectos?

34s in a Recto are a very noticeable change! I agree, more cut and snarl and the amp still sounds huge.

Thanks guys

Any preamp tube suggestions or other tricks I haven't thought of?

GC gave me a footswitch for a Mesa F30 that seems to work well. Are these good with Mesa O/S cabs or would I be better off with another Splawn cab?

I snagged a new single rec about a month ago for $900. I've owned a multi watt dual and a mini. The single is by far my favorite.
