I traded my 6505+ for a 6505 the yesterday. I like the plus ok but I never really use a clean and while the differences in tone aren't huge they are noticeable for me. I drove over an hour for the swap as did the guy who traded me. Really straight forward transaction. I had put several new tubes about 2 weeks ago but the guy included a footswitch as well which mine didnt have and it was a U.S. made 05 so in my opinion it was a pretty good trade.

I should have bought another one when they were $500-$700, (for a USA, mind you)..

I remember when Eddie was done at Peavey, and MF was selling them for $799 brand new, blowing them out. Now people are asking $1500-$2000. Crazy.

Yeah I tried for months to get one. Had one on order from zzounds now they don't carry them. I've been wanting one since I sold my 5150 sig right before covid and all I could find was plus models.

I need to get a dual rec now.

I'm talking about the original EVH Peavey, not the later 6505's, (though I did buy one of those new when they were still USA made). They were $999. A steal. Fender EVH's weren't even out yet. Had a USA 6534 too. That was my favorite of the bunch! Super aggressive, pissed off tone. I'd love to find a used one at a good price and throw some KT77's in it!

I had a 5150 forever. It was beat from use. I sold it when they were cheap and missed it. Just bought another one that was super clean. I paid a lot fucking more than I sold my OG one for.
I feel ya . I’m trying to find mine I’m torn here to get back . I got a stealth 100 to hold me over but the memories of that tone is ingrained in my brain lol .

You can live in the rhythm channel especially with a boost pedal!

Great trade! I prefer the regular version myself as well. Less honky mids and overall just ballsier sounding. I should have never sold my block letter. None of us expected the death VH which ruined the used prices of these things.

As for Zzounds not carrying them anymore, retailers are prepping to sell the new revamped models that are supposed to be released soon. I might have to pick one up so I can load it with EL34’s and see if it’s similar the 6534.

I've owned 2 6505+ and a 5150 sig but this is the first standard 05 I've owned. I've always heard it was the same as the 5150 and now I can confirm.

I would grab the new 6505 or 6505ii before I would pay 1500 for an original 5150. I would like to get another VTM but everyone has suddenly thought they have hit the jackpot with these amps trying to get north of 1k for a 3-400 dollar amp

This store near me went out of business and had everything marked down with stupid low prices. As soon as I found out I rode down to see a guy with the 6534+ that sat there for years. I was like damn you beat me to it and he was telling me he didn't need it but at the price it was going for he couldn't say no.

Another store in town had a 5150 block letter stack brand new for 1600 in 2013. They wouldn't split it up so I always left empty handed. I wish I would have grabbed it but back then 1600 may have well been a million dollars cause I would never be able to come up with that much.

Preach. It's amusing and tormenting looking back at deals you could have had when you were younger and more fucking broke. I have a few that still get to me. At least with the 6534+ they're still relatively reasonable used. There is on Ebay for 950 obo in nice condition. The others in this series start getting far more extreme for nice condition ones. When I was a kid I wanted a 5150 because of In Flames and Arch Enemy and you could pick them up for 500 all day. Good luck with that shit now.

What’s ridiculous is there are so many of the 5150s out there . I can’t see it being priced like it’s rare when it’s so mass produced. Insanity

Right. The other odd part here is they remain essentially unchanged in design (minus minor cosmetics) and are not modded (hardly ever). So it isn’t like a JCM 800 (which also were abundant) where they had different revisions and tons of them have been modded by owners. And 5150s are not so old that a lot have broken down. So I guess I don’t get it either.
