Actually I had it for a couple of weeks now... so i'v had time to dig into it.
IMHO this amp just sounds great.
Very open, and super pick sensitive. not very "modern" sounding per say, but it has that correct bite and mid snarl only a classic Marshall can have, and in spades. The lead tones from the two "channels" are bitchin'.. just hanging on and on. If you turn vol. 1 past 4, it starts to get too loose, but already at 4 it has more nice gain than any plexi type amp i'v tried... If I use channel two which features the cascade mod, i set vol 1 at 4 and use vol 2 as gain knob... sounds fantastic, but a bit different.
Yes, this amp has had an FX loop made... The loop made here is very very good tho. It's tube driven and features a switch for serial or parallel looping. It fucking AWESOME with a MV in the loop... the amp then works a bit more like a 2203, but still with a special tone to it and more gain... not allot tho. It doesn't get over the top gain, unless you just floor it. Bottom like is, that a well made loop by someone who knows the business will in no way affect the tone, it will just make the amp usable.
It's loud... Actually loud isn't a strong enough word. This thing is louder than my cranked '74 Hiwatt Dr-103... it would pulverize a 4x12 greenback cab.
my 200W Weber Mass attenuator starts to smoke if I cranked the amp... it's hysterically loud.
I had to pull two tubes.
To my ears, this is the clearest and by far the most gainy 1959 type Marshall has made since the seventies, it sounds great. They must be using some great iron in these.
I changed the original Marshall JJ's to =C= and Ruby 12AX7's... gives a nice, clear and crisp sound. <stock tubes were obviously worthless.
I don't know if it's an amp ill keep forever, but right now I think it's really inspiring and it puts a big smile to my face.. I love this type of guitar tone. Also, I got the amp for an amazing prize practically new, and with the very good loop included. Putting up some stuff for sale, so I can justify keeping this
Cheers!
