Hi,
Anyone who actually owners a Naylor and ONLY Naylor owners I need help. I have a dual on order, do I need the Hi Drive or Density options? And will it change the original tone of the amp? Also can the amp run el34s without any mods?
Please if you don't or haven't owned one, I don't want your guess or speculation.
Thanks

I’ve got a Duel 100, and if I were to order a new one, I’d get an HD. Mine has a decent amount of gain, but for true high gain territory I boost it with an OD or EQ. Mine still has more than say, a JCM800, but a little more wouldn’t hurt. I’m still content with it as is though.
If the density option is the same thing as resonance, I don’t think it’s necessary. That would be nice for low volume playing to fill it out, but at higher volumes the amp has plenty of low end.
If you order a new Naylor, it can be biased to run EL34’s. I’m going to try them very soon myself. I believe the older Naylors need to be modded for EL34’s.

Thanks for the help!!! I have a Dual 100 on order since November and it should be ready in a month. I watched every YouTube video I could find but I couldn't find any with the Hi Drive option. The best videos were by Panos Antonio Arvanitis, much better tone and playing. Some of the heavier videos were not the same.
Again I Appreciate the reply!!!!!

I would not mind Hi Drive on mine Duel. But it takes boost quite well. My last discovery for heavier sounds from Naylor is Mesa Grid Slammer. It tighten the bass just right and compensate quite mid heavy nature of the amp. I will add Density on new one too, but to lower bass if possible ?
I will focus on clean channel options if clean is a must. I really don’t get its placing before Master volume. It is not loud enough if too clean and too distort if balanced with drive ch. I think about modding mine for non master clean ala Helios or Smallbox.

Like Jeff said, any Naylor from 2012 on (if I remember right) can run most types of octal tubes with a re bias. I ordered mine last July (still waiting) with the HD option, footswitchable. From what I’ve heard it doesn’t add a ton of gain, just a bit of a bump.
If you are getting yours next month then I should expect mine tomorrow!

My point to ordering with a switchable HD is to set the gain low, for a decent clean then hit the HD with a boost pedal for a 2 channel experience.
I had a 1995 SD60 and that worked pretty well without the HD.

May have to look into that Mesa Grid Slammer for my SD60. Currently boosting with Metropoulos Supa Boost.. it's great and works well with the Naylor... but, a slight different flavor or feel is never a bad thing :)

Thanks for the reply! I was hoping, from what I was told in November, I would receive it in 6 months but if you are still waiting, probably not. I emailed him about two weeks ago and no response. When I ordered it he said he only had a few orders ahead of mine. Is this typical, from Naylor?

Thanks! I just wanted to make sure the Hi Drive mod would effect the tone of the amp when not engaged.

It seems to be more typical these days from Naylor :dunno: I have contacted Dave 'many' times about buying a new headshell for my SD60.... I have yet to hear any response at all. I still think they are an honest and reputable business.... but, it might be time to tweak the business model a bit. I wish their communication was as great as their amps.

Put this it this way, this Dave guy is not Joe Naylor. A bletchley is another take on a Naylor and more marshall like made by the actual creator /Danny Russell/ of the naylor

I think in the past, prior to the supply issues everyone is having the build times were legit. Now, like everything else due to Covid, we sit and wait...and wait...and wait. I have friends who've ordered new vehicles 8 months ago and are still waiting.
So, I assumed you talked with him recently but I guess not...I'd plan on waiting a few more months if I were you.

He said and emailed me photos of a completed Dual 100 chassis that was unsold or the buyer back out, I can’t remember. He told me all he had to do was add any options and build the head cab. He said he had orders head of me and it would be six months, after I sent him a check for 50% of the total as a deposit, until finished. Did he tell you a similar timeframe?

I noticed that too, The website has changed from the last time I saw it. It was updated and had more information but now it looks like an older version. The Dual 100 I ordered was $3200 before options and shipping.

I dont know what his process is for ordering but Im a betting man and he aint building no fuckn head cab. It does sound good though.

I could give two shits about supply issues. I find people are using that excuse to just buy time these days. Really now, how hard is it to reply to an email from someone that sent you their hard earned money and update the status of the amp they purchased? That shit is just flat out wrong IMO. ??

I don't know if he builds them himself but his prior website had photos of his workshop with large rolls of many different colors of tolex and head cab being built.

Its always something but the guy bought naylor in 99 and say up to 2010 Ive seen more michigan amps than his new version for sale.
