I've got one of those! I think mine is a '77, but I'm not positive.

Aren't the "blackback" speakers really just Greenbacks? Mine are the 55hz models too. I'm thinking they're Greenbacks and now G12H30s, though. Anyone know if that's true?

G12H are the 30w and G12M are the 25 greenbacks if im not mistaken..

Oh yeah, I think you're right there. Maybe they made both G12H30s and G12Ms with black backs? I dunno. I just thought a "blackback" was really the same thing as a "greenback".

Yeah..i think they just changed the magnet cover over time...i think they did green/black/cream/brown..but essentially it was just the same speaker i think..

my 78jmp cab has 4 greenback G12M's but again with black back covers...

You can't tell what kind of speaker it is just by the color of the plastic...it'll either say right on that plastic piece or if they're missing (which happens) you can tell by the codes on the speaker frame and cone.

There's a great thread on TGP about this....I learned a lot!

according to the codes on the speaker, that speaker was made august 23 1978
good score

That cab looks killer Chris!!!

Well the Blackbacks came in both G12M and G12H variations. I think from the years 76-79 they were Blackbacks on the covers. I think from like 71-74 maybe, there were Greenback covers, and somewhere between 74-76 i think there were Creambacks too. The 55hz models seem to be more saught after than the 75hz from what i have read.. the 55hz are a bit smoother and fatter sounding.

Hey Randy, oh yes!! I cranked it up freakin LOUD yesterday

I plugged in the Cameron HG Jose JMP into this cab, cranked the bitch and played Cold Sweat!! There's no better way to test a cab than to play some Sykes through it at earbleed volumes with Robogain :D
