Upper left corner, that small triangular space, that is where they used to put something. When did they stop doing that? I bet it was well before '79, my '73 also has that but I seem to remember that a '76 I saw the other day did NOT have that.

Is that where the "100" was at on the '60s cabs?

This pic is of the handwired version, but the old ones are like that too I believe.

Yeah that's what I meant, I think they also but "Bass" there on some of them as well.

So I'm confused... I just noticed that the Marshall cab Yoeri got with his '73 Super Lead also had the corner protectors with the more "vintage" style tolex and gold piping.

I thought the corner protectors didn't come on this style of Marshall cab? Could it be that someone added them to MrDan666's and Yoeri's cab?

I think the corners have been added.. i dont really have any true evidence that they were added, but im guessing so since i thought this style of cab didnt have them!

Yeah, I think so too. I'm thinking the metal handles and corners were added to your cab. I guess they started using the black grill cloth around that time too, so that may be original?

+1

I've only seen the stock JMP and JCM 800 cabs come factory loaded with G12-65's, and that was after th4e metal handle/plywood back days

I think they started using corner protectors from the early seventies on. I have seen a bunch of pics recently and the 71-72 cabs don't have the protectors but cabs from a bit later have both the corner protectors and plastic handles. I'm guessing just like the PTP->PCB move, 1973 could be the year for the changes.

What im wondering.. is if those G12-65's were in the cab to begin with! I mean if it is an early 70's cab, those 65's coulda been put in the cab during the 80s or something!

Just a thought..

Could be? I'd like someone that knows alot about old Marshall cabs to chime in, but they don't seem to be reading this thread (no offense to anyone commenting in this thread!)

My old cab has the cosmetics similar to a modern 1960 cab, but with the checker grill cloth. Those all seem to have corner protectors. But the cabs that you and MrDan666 recently acquired have the tolex done like the modern 1960AX/BX cabs. They have the gold piping along both sides of the top and bottom to match the Super Lead style heads. I've never seen those with corner protectors, which is why I'm confused. I'm not saying it's not right, I just want to know more about it.

It seems that MrDan666's cab has had a few changes. The characterics of the style of tolex I mentioned above with the gold piping, the corner protectors, the black grill cloth, and the G12-65 speakers don't add up to any other Marshall cabs I've seen. UNLESS I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! That could be the case. I just want to learn more, really.

Same here man, I read as much as possible about the old Marshall stuff before buying the half stack but I'm still half-guessing on this stuff. All I KNOW is that the halfstack kicks major booty
