Ever since I got my Trainwreck Express, I've been searching for an old Ampeg V4 cab as it is what Ken Fischer recommended as the best one out there for his amps. I finally scored one last week and it showed up yesterday. Built like a tank and weighs about the same as one too. It's in great condition for a '71 with the only real cosmetic issue being a spilled beer stain down the front of the grillcloth (anybody know the best way to clean it?).

I scored it for the price of an unloaded cab since the seller knew the speakers were swapped and wasn't sure what was in there. Turns out it has some older T-75s. I haven't fired it up yet but I imagine that I'll be yanking those out in favor of some G12M type (anybody want these 75s?).

Great score! We used one of those for all the guitar tracks on my bands album, ours was loaded with v30's though.

I fired it up last night with my Express and a Les Paul Special and was surprised by how good it sounded with the T-75s in it. In a side-by-side-by side comparison with two T-75 loaded Marshall cabs (A&B) it sounded bigger and smoother. I'm not sure how much of that can be attributed to the cab versus the older, more broken in speakers, but the V4 was the clear winner for what I want to hear.

I have somebody interested in the T-75's but if he doesn't take them, I'm not going to be in any hurry to replace them (although the ultimate plan is to score some old G12's)...I've never heard them sound so good in a non-metal context.

Nice score. I don't see much vintage ampeg guitar stuff around.

Thanks! I've been looking for one of these for over a year...they don't seem to pop up too often, and when they do they are usually overpriced and/or in bad condition.
