Just picked this up for a good price. Seller said 2 were reconed prior to 2001 by previous owner. Top two visibly had large dustcaps and bottom 2 had small dustcaps. I had never heard of 98700 cones and so I thought the bottom 2 were also recones. He was open to offers when I told him I thought all 4 were recones but I wasn't comfortable lowballing so I passed. Then I phoned a RigTalk friend (TY!!! ) and he told me about the 98700 cones. I called seller back and we met again. He even took $25 off due to burn mark on stereo/impedance switch (he wasn't aware until I pointed it out). The top two are 1777 cones with large dustcaps like G12-65. Just got home and haven't played it yet, I will swap out jacks before doing that. They all pass a tap test. All frames are from mid-74.

All 4 caps were loose so I pulled them off.

My favorite speaker to date brother, nice very nice!

Those 74 cream backs are killer speakers. I have RIC cones in my cab now..just screams. Found a 72 totally stock slant with Pulsonic 102/3 cones...I’ll find out what all the fuss is about soon. Those 98700 cones are super rare, only made for a few months...
Congrats!

Thanks bro! I just remembered the newer cabs with that switch are what I call Parallel-Series (speaker pairs in parallel then series at the jack) and I like Series-Parallel (speaker pairs in series then parallel at the jack altho it doesn't have to physically be 'at the jack'). So I'm still rewiring it...with Switchcrafts.

I'm shocked Johan Segeborn does not have a video comparing Series-Parallel and Parallel-Series, he's covered practically everything else.

Well that is a nice little find! Well done!
Thanks! I travel for work (almost always a drive, not flight even before pandemic) so I check CL of my visits. I was going to grab fatbagg's Engl Artist because I was close to him but we just didn't connect in time.
