Not quite sure how to think on this deal.

I acquired this Bugera 333 head in a trade deal. To make a long story short, I traded a Warwick Corvette Standard 4 string fretless bass for the Bugera head and an Ibanez V Blade VBT700 (with OHSC). I never planned on keeping the head, but I had my guitarist use it as a scab when his Triple Rec went in the shop. I finally got sick of seeing it, so I posted it on the good old CL and got a few hits on it within a few hours.

The one I pulled the trigger on was an old VHT cab. It's had some road wear, but seems legit. The guy told me that it's a low serial number, and that Steven Fryette offered to buy it when he emailed him about getting another switch and a new name badge for it. He said it was one of the first years they made them and it was made in his garage. He also said it had the original Eminence P50E speakers and that it was wired to be 8 ohm stereo only.

He fed me a load of shit. One side of it didn't work. The jack was kinda wonky, so I opened it up to take a look, and it had Sheffield speakers in it. Now, the Bugera 333 was mint (see the other thread for what "mint" means), but it is still a Bugera... Boo-gera... Boooooo-gaaaay-raah...

I'm not quite sure if I made out, or got screwed. Glad to have a VHT cab. Glad to off the Bugera. Kinda upset the cab was loaded with a crap-shoot. Glad I don't have the Bugera anymore.

That sucks that the guy lied to you, but that is an excellent cab. I never liked the P50s anyway - I always pulled them out and replaced them. I used FB 4x12s and Deliverance 4x12s for a few years.

BTW - the first few years of these cabs had V30s. The P50s came later. And I don't think VHT ever made any of their own cabs. Most amp companies have cabinet makers do it for them, but to the amp company's specs. I certainly could be wrong about VHT though.

I've got a VHT cabinet and I can't get the damn thing open to change the speakers. I'm having some problems that I think is just wiring, but as soon as I check the speakers and if they're all fine, it's possible I might sell them and get K100s, which suit me better. If interested I can see if I remember to shoot you a message on here so you can get P50Es to match the cabinet. I really like these speakers, my only problem with them is that they don't seem to handle 8-string lows too well, although they are excellent with everything else so far.

I never had a problem pulling off the grill on my VHT cabs. I changed those speakers pretty often.

The FB cab has fast attack - and the K100s have fast attack. You may want to be careful...if you hit a powerchord hard enough you may go back in time.

As someone else said, early VHT cabs came loaded with Vintage 30's. That should have clued you in that the guy was full of it.

I played a 333XL and I thought it was a great amp. It sounded much better than the Mesas I used to own.

I own two early 90s(91-92) VHT 4x12 cabs and they are loaded with celestion 25 watt greenbacks,VHT only offered celestion speakers back then, anyway these two that I own are the best 4x12 cabs ive ever heard.

The grille on mine was a little tough to get off too. I used a pen on the loops and just gave it a yank. I may tinker with the cab again tonight, but I don't know.

My old band used to play in drop A, and I would throw a personal recommendation for the Eminence Legend speakers. The band was endorsed through Basson Sound Equipment, and their cabs came loaded with them, and they did the job well. I'm trying to unload the cab after getting the VHT cab, but if you'd be up for it, I'd be willing to swap a quad of Eminence Legends for a quad of P50Es. Eh?
