I just picked up the New Journey release, Revelation and its got me smiling ear to ear. First off, Its a pretty damn cool package; 1 CD of new material, I CD of reworked classics with the new singer and a Live DVD, not bad at all for 12 bucks!!

The new material is pretty damn good, typical Journey here, they didnt set out to reinvent the wheel( or is it reinvent the wheel in the sky? :D ). There could have been some more uptempo rockers for my tastes but theres definitely some strong material even if it isnt their strongest IMO. Neals Playing is top notch , Melody just oozes from this pores it would seem. The reworked classics really dont deviate much from the way they were originally done , the arraingements and solos are basically the same save for some slight differences here and there.

The Live DVD is cool as well. The new singer Arnel Pineda has a helluva set of pipes but he lacks the stage presence and dynamics of Steve Perry and Steve Augeiri( who I thought was awesome, loved that guy!!!) Hes also young so I see some incredible potential in him to carry Journey forward. Deen Castronovo BLEW ME AWAY with his lead vocals on Mother , Father. I knew he could sing but damn, He gave Perry a run for his money on that one, Im not kidding!!!

Schons playing on the DVD is great but it isnt as good as what we saw on the Journey 2001 DVD( holy moly, he was on fire on that!!) but its still a strong performance and a pleasure to watch. Then again, Neal could be ganked out on Smack and still bring the goods...

If youre a Schon or Journey fan, youd be hard pressed to be disappointed by the New discs. Im just really happy to see my favorite player out there playing and putting out new music that kicks ass, Pick it up and enjoy

Cool, Schon is awesome - I've got that 2001 DVD and he is ripping! Nice to see a rock star avoid all the pitfalls of being a "rock star" and still be putting out good stuff - good for him!

Yeah,Schon is a MONSTER! I've been into his playing for alot of
years, and the guy never fails to amaze me.....And he's done quite
a few other side projects that were very cool-HSAS,BAD ENGLISH,
HARDLINE,SOUL SIRKUS as well as quite a few good solo disks.....
You should also pick up the Journey Live In Houston DVD that
came out earlier this year....That one shows Schon just killin' it
from beginning to end(With his Les Paul that has the Floyd Rose!)
And yes, Deen Castranovo kills it on "Mother,Father"!

The new CD is awesome! It took me awhile to get used to the new singer, but man the dude can sing. I am seeing them next Wednesday

Cool, another Schon fanatic!!! Ive got the Houston show(ive had it for years actually!!!) as well as pretty much anything and everything that hes ever played on, Im that much of a fanboi. In my eyes , he can do no wrong. These 2 guitars of mine which are my favorites are clearly and shamelessly Schon inspired.

Nothing cooler than an LP w/ a Floyd IMO.... Im putting Sustainiac drivers in both of them to complete the package

I, too, am a huge Schon fan. In fact, I am working on a new clip right now and believe it or not I had you and a few others on the board in mind when putting it together. I have always loved the s/t Hardline release and currently putting together a backing track together for Hot Cherie. His lead on that album was awesome! I'll post it when I'm done recording it. He has an uncanny ability to play leads that have a big anthemic quality. So memorable!

BTW, who made his signature guitar back in the 80s? I think he was playing it around the Raised On Radio release.

Well it had Schon on the headstock but they were Jacksons. There are several stories about where they came from, one story is that Jackson was not to hip on the guitar and wanted to ensure they could get out quick if need be so they were farmed out to other shops.

They played awesome and cool ergo design imo whoever made them.

....And then I heard that once the Jackson connection fell thru
that the guitars were made in CANADA by Godin(Seagull).......

dean's vocals on mother, father are amazing...gave me goosebumps...sounded BETTER than perry himself...

What happened to Jeff Scott Soto as the singer for Journey?

He got the boot brother.

That sucks, he has such a great voice (Soul Sirkus)! Do you know why he got kicked out?

I did not get the scoop as to why he left the band or got kicked out. there has been a lot of speculation but nothing solid as to why he is out!

I dig that instrumental track on the new Journey disc....Neil gets to unleash a bit.

Anyone know what he uses for delay? sounds glorious.

I saw Journey with JSS, he's a great singer by all means, just didn't fit with that style IMO.

I was more into the engineering feat of getting Randy Jackson into spandex during the Raised on Radio tour

I did a check on the web and that seems to be the general concensus. It seems as if the fans didn't think he fit the band and the band took notice.
I also read an article with Sotto where he wanted to take the band in a different direction and that didn't fly with the other guys.

LOL, I love Jeff Scott Soto's pipes, but when you join Journey, you shut your mouth and let Neil and Jonathan drive the car.
