Need a clear sounding and articulate neck pickup

What do you guys dig?

I'm running a Aldrich in the bridge of my Carvin Dc127 and it sounds amazing!

I have a duncan 59 in the neck that sounds cool but it seems a bit muddy with a tad of treble spike for my taste....

Looking for a clear NOT muddy sound with nice articulate note definition and smooth buttery highs.... what do you say boys?

The Aldrich neck is awesome. I think it maintains a sharp pick attack, which I like.

I've also liked a Suhr SSV, Motor City Blissbucker and Dimarzio Air Norton in the neck. A lot of people like a Duncan Jazz, but I thought it was blah.

WCR Darkburst is the best I've heard, but the Motor City Pickups Afwayu is a close 2nd!

Nice.... Now im confused LOL! I think i may try a jazz... Im getting some mud and a plinky kinda top end from my 59 right now... not LOVING it....

How would you descrive the darkburst? is it a ceramic pickup ? highoutput ?

if you are using a rather hot pick up in the bridge....

the bridge model of the JB works well..

its paired with a parrallel axis distortion trembucker.

works great!

The Jazz is my go-to neck pickup. It can mud out in the lower registers with extreme gain, though.

Another vote for the Jazz here...its just an all-around great neck pickup. The Pearly Gates neck model is another one that I like...it qualifies as clear and articulate, yet still fat sounding.

I'm really curious on the jazz....I do use a lot of gain though... Probably wont work to well especially since i hate the low end mud you speak of... (humbucker)

hmm this sounds tasty! Good idea... maybe using a bridge pickup for the neck.... interesting!!

it will be very sensitive to how close it is to the strings..

I would suggest using a seperate popt for the volume of the bridge and the neck pick up.

that way its lets you pad down the jb if needed before the volume control.
if your qurious about this pm me.. its far too geeky....

tone pot is also suggested.(keep in mind I HATE TONE POTS, rarely use em.)
but with with pup.. its awesome!

Other bridge pick ups that work well in the neck:

Dimarzio Super 2 ( little bassy but control able)
Emg 81 (only really likedit for high gain leads in les pauls)
Dimarzio Mega drive ( neat pick up, flip it for a diffrent flavor)
SD Dimebucker ( my favorite pick up to split in the neck position.)

Before you go out buying other pickups I'd suggest trying your 59 coil tapped, it sounds very nice actually.

Another vote for the Air norton here.

I don`t have any guitars with routing for a full humbucker, so I don`t have one atm. Except for the ESP, but there`s EMGs in that one, and I can`t be bothered to switch out the entire guts to go passive. I also don`t feel like paying someone lots of cash to do it either

Bare Knuckle Stormy Monday (Alnico II) or if a bit hotter is preferred: VHII (Alnico V).

Best neck pickups ever!

The Rebel Yell set has also a very clean neck, but it can be a bit on the sharp side.
