I've got an air classic right now in the neck of an alder body and ebony fretboard strat. JB in the bridge which might get replaced with something a tad warmer but i dig it. The neck pup has no balls and is too thin and glassy sounding. I like the 36 anni with the vol rolled back to 8 and tone back to 8 but that is on a les paul type and i don't want 4 knobs on a fat strat. Is there a neck pup in the dimarzio / duncan camp that has the gain and precision of the 36 anni but a tad less quack? I'm thinking Sykes and Norum neck tones and know that both guys use PAF-ish types in their Pauls but not sure what they had used in their strat/kramers (Kramer in the still of the night vid).
What have you guys liked? I have an old Paf Pro but i am afraid it may lack some bass. I thought I might also try an airzone I had for the bridge of this guitar and stick that in the neck. It has detail and more mid/bass emphasis. Besides that, I'm open to suggestions.. I am trying out for a band next week and after putting in time really learning the material, my air classic neck has no balls and is too wimpy for those big neck runs.
