Need a new noise gate.

I recently hooked my Friedman smallbox up to my suhr reactive load for recording. I am running a pedal board in 4cm and i am getting quite a bit of noise from the computer. My smallbox has a sat switch and i am not heavy into boosting the amp in front. I have a few modulation pedals and a wah. Most of the time i am either using a reverb or delay in the effects loop. I want something that gates naturally. I have owned the decimator g string before and i liked it. I just always felt like the amp sounded a little better without it. Is there any other options? I am not sure if i need the gate in front of the amp and the loop or not.

Get a Fortin Zuul. It works great out front or in a loop. Minimal tone suck.

Also made the switch to Zuul. Thee best gate I've ever used.

Is Zuul better than ISP Decimator? I am all about the ISP Decimators...

Still using the NS2. I see no reason to switch. It does what I want it to do.

Question on the Zuul.

In all the videos I have seen the decay sounded really bad. If you are just playing some random quick chug or whatever and you rest in between them there is a really awful sound. I hear it in every video I have seen which makes me think it cannot be dialed out? The G string 2 doesn't do that. That would be a deal breaker for me.

You can hear it here at 7:12

and here at 1:10

I love my ISP Prorack G. I also have the ISP Prorack...which i'm selling for $200.00 but since my old account was locked for some reason, I had to create this new one.

I think for many of us the, ISP Decimator was king until the Fortin Zuul came out.

Another vote for the Zuul here. Fantastic, was running 2 isp’s before this

i just realized i have an old ns2 laying around. I will throw it in the loop and see how it sounds.

That was my experience.

Looks like you cant get the full use of the Zuul unless you have a pedal that can split your signal. I don't have any pedals with a second output.

I too switched from ISP to Zuul. I do wish the Zuul didn't need a split but otherwise I like it.

I like mine better running at 12 volts, without the key. It gives a little more headroom.

So what is up with the thing in the videos? Can anyone comment about that? Just curious. I like the G2 and no reason to switch but it is a pain in the ass to connect with 4 cables.

I use an RJM Effect Gizmo and I think it has a buffered output for a tuner that I could use to key the Zuul without loading down the signal to my amp. I could power it from my Strymon Zuma AND eliminate one potential source for ground loops. Plus it sounds like it'd be even more transparent than the ISP.

Thats exactly how I’m running it and it works like a charm. And yes on the transparency comment as well.

I am biased, but I have used every gate on the market in a professional setting, and I love my ZUUL. I use it for everything now and everyone that tries it? Swaps over. Mike did really well on this one.
