I have a Warmoth strat, Floyd, 2 hum, alder body maple/rosewood neck, Gibson 500t/496r pickups.
I like how the 500t is aggressive, tight and high output. It just seems really harsh and bright in this guitar. I'd love to find a pup that's similar without the harshness.
Any ideas?

I like the jb sh4 pickups smooth with enough high gain output.

I play in a 70-80s cover band.....bad company, lynyrd skynyrd, Eddie money, scorpions.

Hope that helps

SD Distortion.

I have the Mayhem Set in an alder Warmoth and it sounds good clean and dirty. I think I picked it up for $114 new.

The Tremonti Treble is actually exactly what you described. The Distortion is just as bright as the 500T.

The 498T is a great rock pickup. Not quite as aggressive but still a great rock pickup. Cleand up better wit hthe volume knob too. You can't go wrong with the JB though. I actually tried to like the SD distortion. I just like the JB better for all around use.

The last two bridge pups I had in this guitar were a JB and a 498t. You're right about the 498, it is a really cool pup, but It just lacked some growl I'm looking for. I feel the same way about the JB.

Another vote for a duncan distortion. I have a white one for sale if interested. Pulled it out of a strat before I sold it. Sounded perfect in there.

Cool story.

what about doing a magnet swap with the 500t....I think they are ceramic so maybe try an alnico 8, which should give you similar tone without the harsh top end

You suggested the SD Distortion.

I backed up your suggestion by mentioning I have a Warmoth guitar of similar specifications with two SD Distortion pickups.

Sorry for the confusion.

try changing the volume pot to a 250 or 300k pot, or solder a 250k resistor across the lugs on the pot that aren't grounded, might just get the sound you want without spending any money...

You want JB levels of output? More growl? Brighter guitar? Motor City Afwayu growls like no other. PM me if you want to know more. Great in brighter guitars and has some serious balls and authority without being overly compressed. Really fun to play.

Agree. Afwayu is a great pickup.

EMG 81 It's really tight, very aggressive and sits in a mix really well.

Lots of great advice here guys, thanks. I'm gonna start by throwing a 250k pot in and see where that gets me.
