I currently have a Fender 212R combo amp, and it's fine, but it doesn't sound similar at all in tone to my Laney GH50L an Marshal 4x12. I'm in the market for a new or used combo under $300 that has a similar hot rodded JCM800 sound to it like the Laney does. Doesn't necessarily have to be tube, I was looking into older Tubewerks combo amps from the late 80's. They seem to have a good tone for valves.

I'd try to find a Marshall 5215, which is the combo version of the 3210 MOSFET Lead 100. Of the amps I've played, the 3210 is the closest I've heard to a JCM 800. They shouldn't be terribly expensive. A few hundred bucks.

I used to have a Laney AOR Pro-Tube 30 combo. They go for around $300. There are 3 on ebay right now. Nothing sounds like a 412 except a 412, but you'll get some decent high gain out of it. Much more than anything Fender makes for certain.
