Got a new 6 string looking to tune in b standard. I bought some EB cobalts 56-12, but am worried they might be too tight? I'm a pussy. Hahaha

I usually use 9-42 e standard, 46-10 D standard, 46-9 Eb standard, and 49-11 for drop C.
Did I go too heavy, should I just get a light 52-9 7 string set and drop the high 9? :aww:

I say you made a good choice but I like heavier strings. I'm using a 59 as my low string in drop C so ymmv

Wow, I like 9-42 in standard E, but replaced the 10-46 gauge that was down a whole step in D with 11-52 as the 10-42 where just too spaghetti like and had trouble playing them in tune.

56 - 13 for B tuning. That's what Kirk Windstein uses, and so do I with my B tuned ltd Viper. It's the perfect tension.

I use 11-54's on my C Standard guitars and they feel roughly equivalent to a 9-46 in Standard tuning, so you're probably fine going down to B with 12s.

I use 13-56 also. The D'Addario EJ22 set.

I wouldn't mind 12-56 if I could find it, but the EJ22 set has a wound G, which is a dealbreaker for B tuning for me.

I like light strings also.....

I have the cobalt 56-12 on my axe at, and they seem best for drop A#. In B standard a bit wobble. It's nice to have one axe not have a tremolo to worry about so I can move around without a huge headache...but the Ernies are coming off today. Trying another.

for B I use 63-13 if you want "standard" feeling tension.

I choose gauge by note frequency and tension.
