Guys, just to mention again: The 100B already has a dummy load. It can be switched in on the back. So you can use the dummy load and go through the line out or FX send into any speaker sim, no attenuator needed.

Had both the 03 and 04 in house for testing. The 04 has an adjustable filter, allowing you to open it up more, where as the 03 is a fixed filter. I liked the features of the 04 way better, but for some reason it sounded a bit more mushy and round on distortion over the 03. The 03 just had a tad more bite to it on distortion. Neither was perfect though and nothing I would use as a final track. As far as a load, it was ok, with my 100 watter, bringing the gain up to about half way was all you could do without having very bad artifacts, but still, that is pretty loud. Its probably the most affordable load / filtered DI solution, but not the best. Torpedo seems to be the best, but its crazy expensive. If you are looking to spend that much, just go with a stricly DI solution, Line 6 or Axe FX. You will be monitoring with a headset anyway, which sucks for guitar, so you won't be missing your amp all that much imo and your rig will be much much lighter.

yes.... sorry - I have a THD Hot Plate so I guess all I really need is a speaker sim??
No??
--- sorry - I like to run into a cab - with two 57's on it... this is all horseshit to me!

Not trying to be a dick or anything but a voice of experience. .I play in loud stage volume bands and can use what I like for gear. My drummer loves that and is a lead vocalist in his other band and they have no amps on stage and use in-ears,etc. He hates it , and I know him and he'll leave that band. .

If you absolutely HATE the lo-volume on stage thing ,it won't last. You have to 'want' to do that, or otherwise it's the wrong band for you .

Good luck

Eric

then the palmer has just a sim without the load, much cheaper.

I TOTALLY understand and agree, Eric! It's an amphitheatre large church and the stage is silent. It would be a one year thing. Just trying to see if I can do it "enjoyably" ... Maybe I'll be ok with the earpiece??!! I dunno... Maybe I'll hear more clarity??

Thanx Eric,

Keith

Cool , as long as it's something you're 'interested in ' or 'appeals ' to you , it can work just fine!!! What I've found is it's VERY VERY different playing low stage volumes as opposed to my normal levels. At first I've been really resistent to it , but it always ends up a learning experience. I find that I can listen to others' parts much more with the low volume and use more dynamics. (even with heavy music) I honestly like the loud stage volume setup 100% more, but have found 'pros' to the lo-vol situation! EnJOY!

Hearing your guitar in an earpeice SUCKS! I guess you can get used to it but it sounds way un-natural and effects my playing. best of luck

Hey Hunter, the 100B does have a line out - but I understand from what I hear is that I would be much better using my Hot Plate (on load) - then into something like this???

http://www.pedalspluseffectswarehouse.c ... -pdi09.htm

- then straight to PA??

keith

Yes. Make sure you A/B the sonic difference between the 09 run off the 100Bs line oout, the HPs Line-out and between the HP and head. I prefer the sound off the speaker tap...

It was GT vs. the Marshall SE-100.

Palmer uses a total different design, a mix of halo-lamps and resistors for the load while the Marshall and the GT have Rs and inductors.
See I thought the 03 did the same as the 04, at least that's how I remembered but looking around I couldn't find whether the 03 had the bulb or just a L-pad.

I have looked into my problem and everyone seems to point me here...

Palmer PDI-03

Palmer PGA-04?

Palmer DPI-03/04?

I need to get a half decent tone outta my Bogner 100B head without making a noise on the stage. Ear pieces are used ... blah blah blah - Everything I hate, you know??!!

Anyone who can help me, please??
This is all new to me!

Keith :aww:

The palmer pdi -03 is NOT an attenuator it is a speaker sim and load box , it cannot be used to attenuate an amplifier for stage volume.
if you have a cab connected it works on a speaker through so however loud your amp is ,that is the actual stage volume you will hear
the load only works when there is no cab connected you then use the line out or filter volume for recording or for driving effects
the speaker sim works when a cab is connected but it does NOT attenuate for live stage volume
its also worth noting that if you do use the palmer for a wet dry wet setup while having a cab connect then the amp needs to hit 20 db before it will drive an outboard processor like an eventide for example
same if you try to use the line out you need 20 db
the only time the palmer Pdi -03 is quiet is if there is NO cab connected
Ive used them extensively and owned them , they are good devices but no good for reducing stage volume ....
