Hi Dave... if you or someone else can point me in the right direction here... I am trying to run 2 half stacks in stereo with Amp 1 as the preamp for both amps and Amp B as a power amp only.

Amp A has the guitar input as well as the send and return from the stereo effects. Amp B is return only from the effects. It works fine with certain heads but i cant get this to work with a Splawn and a Msrshall DSL??? Is it that the effects loops are different (serial and parallel)? Is there a way to do this?

Any help greatly appreciated.

When I run the Splawn as main amp/both preamps... the DSL is screaming noise... cant get it past zero. If i reverse it and run the DSL as the main... no volume comes out of the Splawn.

Here is the basic setup:
Splawn effects send into Timefactor in
Timefactor out (1) into Splawn return and TF out (2) into DSL return.

It works with a Splawn and a Randall but cant get it to work with DSL.

Does the TF run at instrument or line level, or is it switchable?

Does the DSL allow you to run the loop as serial or parallel? If so, which are you running?

Does your Splawn have the Loop Volume?

I am running the TF at line level. But either way i still had the same issue. The Splawn does have loop volume. The DSL does not have a loop option. I think its a parallel loop and the Splawn is serial.

ON the Marshall when using it for a power amp you might have to insert a open plug into the unused send. Just take any cable and try it. Same might be the case for the splawn. Also the power amp amplifier also you should grOund lift.

Thanks for the reply Dave. I tried this. With the Splawn as the main amp, the volume on the Marshall is just screaming loud and hum. Can't get it past zero. Same problem happens with a 5150 combo as the power amp. But with a Randall its fine. Im wondering if its because they have different loops?

What about something like a Big Shot with a 180 phase switch?

Correct me if i'm wrong but I would use the Radial if I was running both amps independently... like an A/B box? If so, I am not looking to do it that way. I am trying to run 1 preamp for both amps.

if there is no loop mix knob on the marshall you are essentially plugging into a wide open power amp. The same thing happens when I use my 5150 this way so I have to stick a volume pedal between the timefactor out and effect return on the 5150. I usually have to run a hum eliminator as well.

Thanks. Yeah i had the same issue with the 5150. Weird because it works fine with my Randall head. Seems like a lot of hoops to jump through to do this!

It's definitely not the ideal way of doing it but it sounds amazing having an el34 and 6l6 power amp running in stereo. I'm no expert but I'd guess the difference is whether or not the amp has a master volume
