Ok. I'm not really well versed on this. I've always just used regular guitar amp. Plug it and play. (Peavey, Line 6, etc). I want to move to a rig that I can just run through a 212 or a 412 speaker cabinet. Can someone give me some advice on how to set it up. I have a Roland GP8 effects processor I want to use and a Rocktron Hush IICX to quiet and noise from the Roland. Do I run that through a preamp > poweramp> speaker cabinet? I'm not really wanting to get a big Head to run through. I'm just mainly curious about how I would set it up using all rack mount devices. I know I probably sound like an idiot but, like I said, I've always just used straight up single unit guitar amps. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Well, in this case I imagine it would go:

Roland-Preamp-Hush-Poweramp
or:
Preamp-Roland-Hush-Poweramp

... depending on what you mainly use the Roland for.

Are you using the GP8 as a preamp for your main guitar sound? If so, the chain would be...

GP8 -> Hush -> Power Amp

It sounds more like you're using the GP8 alongside an amp. If that's what you want, then the signal chain would depend on how you use the GP8 specifically. Do you run it as a preamp simultaneously with an amp? Use it only for effects, bypassing the digital amplifier sounds?

First of all. I didn't realize I could use the Roland as a Pre Amp. I was going to just use it as a straight up effects processor for delay, chorus, compression, etc. I'm not crazy about the Distortion. But it's so convenient to use the other effects in just that one unit. It eliminates a ton of pedals. I was thinking about using the gain from a separate preamp. As well as the overall tone using the EQ controls from the preamp. Low, Mids, highs.

So, I guess to simplify, I want to just use the Roland for the effects. Not really the Distortion and overall tone. I would like to get my tone and gain from a separate unit.

Your hush should be before your effects so it doesn't cut off the verbs or delays.
The hush should be after your preamp so it gets rid of the noise.

Guitar preamp hush effects poweramp cab.

Guitar preamp hush effects poweramp cab.

Marty for the win.

Thanks guys. Now I just need to find the tone I'm looking for. Looking for a Pre Amp that I can get a more Satriani type tone. If you got any suggestions. I'm open. Not really a hard core 'All Low/No mid' metal sound. Lots of highs and Mids. I guess more of a clean 80's sound with some edge to it.

I would grab an ADA MP1, tried and true and has plenty of good tones in there, not just hair metal tones.

Yeah, the ADA MP1 would be a great preamp to start with.

The rocktron stuff is good too,but the ADA would be better in my opinion. Not sure if the Cameleon has a built in hush unit of not.

ADA MP-1 and an EQ for the loop, Mesa Triaxis, Mesa Studio/Quad, Marshall JMP-1

All worth considering.
