Hey guys, I changed the volume pot on my Ibanez Jem, there was a small resistance on the old one. I kept it. I am asking myself what is it doing ?

Also I think that with the new pot, the pinch armonics squeel a little les, maybe it is the strings, I put the same as usual or the new volume pot have less gain I dont know. The original was 500k ans I put the same.

The photo is the original pot

What do you think

That looks like a ‘Treble Bleed’ - allows some high end to come through as you roll the volume down. Helps keep the sound clear and bright as you roll the volume down. Most find that without the treble bleed on the volume pot, humbuckers in particular drop a lot of high end during the initial sweep of the volume pot causing the sound to get dull or muddy with the volume knob rolled back.

I played with several treble bleeds on a few of my guitars and ended up going without them. Some pickups are more susceptible to muddying up at lower volume pot settings than others.
