I used the APS Klassics for a while and then got it in my head I wanted something that was nearfield/midfield as I decided to forgo cabs and only used monitors for everything, so I had a pair of Adam AX7’s for several years. Great monitors, loved them. Highly recommended. But eventually I got the itch and went crazy ($) and got some Focal Trio 6 BE’s. I hope they last me the rest of my life, amazing, big ass monitors and sound so clear. But they cost an arm and a leg.
Any monitors can be great if you really get to “know” them. Spend time listening to a lot of music you know really well and your ears can get used to dialing in something that sounds great. But if you’re looking to play modelers and want a good guitar sound, a 5 inch or 7 inch speaker is just not going to move you like a full cab with 12 inch speakers. Monitors more than anything are really one of those things you get what you pay for and quality is linear with price.
One thing I did several years ago that may be worth trying, record something or take some music you know really well on your phone, go into GC or whatever music store near you, plug into the sample monitors and give them a listen. See which sounds best to you, then Search for a used pair.
