Have a buddy who wants to trade me his Blades Firebolt for my Fractal FX8. The Blades is worth more but I don't need the amp. I've never played one but I've heard video clips and people rave about them. But I'm also not using my FX8 cause I'm still using the G-Sytem in my live rig. Also, my Fractal AX8 just arrived today. The FX8 is the latest and greatest in 4 cable method effects processors and I really don't want to sell it. But this almost seems like too good a deal to pass up. But then I also don't want to have to mess with flipping this amp. Thoughts? What would you do?

The blades may cost double but it's not worth double the cost of the FX8. That one in the classifieds may be selling for $2800 or whatever but a 50 watt Blades Firebolt sat for several months last fall or summer, cant' remember when for around $1300 and finally moved (assuming) after he dropped the price more. It sat for what seemed like forever. Mailman Dan sold one here a month or so ago for pretty cheap as well.

I am not a Effects guy so I would trade. But I am an amp whore.
If you dont need it then hold on to the FX8.

That Blades won't sell for near that price. Agree with everything SJK said. If you're not using the FX8, and want a different amp then I say go for it. I remember one for sale near Milwaukee and he wanted 1300, sat for a while. But I think the value is even. 2800? That buys you a VH4, SLO, maybe a Wizard....Blades? I'm sure it sounds good but the value is nowhere near that price.

Blades shit looks trashy as fuck. His tattoos are garage.

He is a troll who claims everyone is doing the same mods and charging too much and now he is doing the same stuff.

I'm not going to post in that dudes thread but asking basically the brand new price for a used amp is super dumb.

You could sell the FX8 within a week...the Blades maybe never.

This. Just dump the fx8, probably easily, and go get another amp and have options.
Not trying to pigpile anyone who has one; but until today I thought the blades amp was just a running joke and not something that was actually made.

You will surely get a bolt of fire with the accident waiting to happen product he is sending out the door. Make sure you get a fire extinguisher in the trade.

One people realize the Billy is a knuckle dragging, fly by night, paint by number amp copier, i predict the value of his amps to plummet.

Lot's of people can copy an amp, make it purdy on the outside and put a logo on it. Most are honest enough with themselves and others to not sell to the public when they know damn well they are in no position to sustain any sort of realistic business model. His soldering skills rank up there with his lack of tattoo skills. Pretty F'ing bad. There is so much wrong with the build quality that it is truly unsafe.

I'd keep the FX8 or sell it out right, it's hot gear and people want it.....wouldn't trade.

I think you could get 1100 for the Blades so I say go for it!

Are the blades hand wired heads? I don't care for the lightning bolt..I heard a few clips that peeked my interest. But I never knew he had a not so good reputation here. And if that's an actual photo of inside one I'd have to say keep the axe8 no matter what...did the axe skyrocket inprice? They were 1350 I thought...have seen asking g prices of way above that.I hope someone can enlighten me on this as well..

Personally, I would never even consider owning a Blades product. Shit, I wouldn't take one for free. After seeing the gut shots and reading his drivel on forums across the net, I see no reason to ever even think of him as a builder. I don't understand why anyone would support that guy considering how easy it is to find his posts online.

If you're not getting any use out of the FX8, you could sell it quick online. The Fractal units sell very well, even in the current market. They keep their value as well, if not even gain value due to long wait lists when Fractal gets backed up. There are plenty of people out there looking for Fractal units. On the other end, you'd be lucky if you get even half of what you've been told the Blades is worth, if it even works at all.

Getting the Blades serviced (which it will most certainly need sooner than later) will be a real problem. I would never send it back to Blades for work, and I highly doubt you would be able to find someone else who will work on it. Even if you find someone who isn't aware of Blade's reputation, the chances of a tech working on it are still slim. He/she will open it up, take one good look at, either laugh or be dumbfounded, and turn you away.

Sell the FX8 online (Reverb, here, the Fractal forums, other forums) and buy yourself an amp you really want, from a builder you can trust. I know it seems like a good deal, but it's not worth it. On paper it seems good, sure...but the used value is nowhere near as high as you'd think, and the hassle of dealing with the whole thing is just a waste. What happens when you try and flip it, and not only lose money on the deal, but it gets damaged due to shipping (and terrible build quality)? You'll be on the hook for that, and lose even more money on the deal.

I've heard clips of the Blades stuff that sounded good to me. I would never say his amps don't sound good. To me, they don't sound great, but that's a personal/subjective thing. But...you know what else sounds good? A Bogner, or a Diezel, or a Mesa, Friedman, Fortin, Bray, etc... Those builders also put out good (if not stellar) sounding amps, with superior build quality, and positive reputations among us gear nerds. You can trust those builders. Can you trust Blades? It won't take much reading online to find it's a tough call. There are plenty of guys out there doing Marshall mods and complete modded Marshall-esque amps that sound great, and don't require even thinking about these kinds of issues.

On second thought, I'd take one for free just to gut it for parts. Make sure someone else doesn't waste their money, and risk burning their house down.

I've never played a Blades so I can't give you any advice it, but I'm assuming this trade is with Nate? If so he's a hell of a good guy in general and to deal with.

Trade is off the table so no decision to be made. I really wanted to keep the FX8 anyway so that is what I would've done. Thanks for sharing your opinions.
