Need Pickup Advice

I wouldn't say the 85 has more mids either, lol. Just different kinds of mids. The 85 has more lower mids, and the 81 has more high mids. It does sound fatter if you wanna stay in that EMG realm, but pretty much any passive will have more low-end girth (and top-end openness too) than any of the active EMG models.

See, I don't like active pickups. I tried the fluence pups and thought they sounded artificial. There was something about the way the bass sounded which made my ears hurt. I think the concept is neat, but the sound is lacking.

a tight pickup with some bloom might be a Duncan Pearly Gates. Much lower output than an EMG 81. More suited to blues-rock. A dimarzio Super 3 will also get you there. Darker voiced pickup, high output with the top end cut just a tad. Find a Jackson PC1 to play, its the stock bridge pickup. An Anderson H2+ will also get you there.

I Have been a long time EMG 81 User & i'm considering switching to Passives. The only Pickups i have ever been interested in was the Seymour Duncan Custom & The JB. i'm looking for something that's tight but not surgically so...has bloom or a bit of sag in the low end.

After watching videos on youtube I've Considered the following pickups:

1. BK Miracle Man

I currently have this in an Ibanez RG2680M - Mahogany body w/Maple Cap, it sounds tight and articulate. Still lets me get that heavy chug sound too. I'm slowly swapping everything over to BKP because they are putting out some of the best passives, imho.

I downloaded a Soldano Avenger 100 Kemper Profile, plugged the Ibanez with MM straight into the daw and recorded this. No boost (although I almost always use boosts).

No Processing:

With Ozone/EQ - Sounds a little crappy without a full mix:

In a Full Mix:

That sounds awesome! I'll have to listen to it again on different speakers when i get home.

I have 4 guitars with EMG 81 or 85 (all single PU). I then found a Strat that actually loved playing and I wanted a put a PU in it that could go toe-to-toe with the actives.

My go-to (Non-Active) PU for the bridge position is the good Ol' Fender Atomic. Hot as hell and plenty of tone. Although I do know these are an acquired taste for some, I love em. Be sure that you either Demo or Hear an original Atomic, not an Atomic II as they are far inferior in tone\quality. Original Atomics come in 2 colors - Black\White. There are no Zebra Atomics that are the original first design.

Spec:
DC Resistance = 16.6 K Ohms
Inductance = 8.5 Henries
Magnets = Alenco 5
Resonance = 2,000 Hz (Weighted)

Do yourself a favor and check one of these out.

Can't go wrong with a JB, I am a longtime emg user and the JB is probably my favorite passive with the aldrich a close second.
The thrash factor is supposed to be a JB with less bass, that is what I am trying next.
