I have been working pretty hard to become a better lead player and I am more interested in legato than sweeping even though sweeping has it's place in my heart. I know there's a ton of very talented players in here and likely a lot of guys that can shred the shit out of legato runs. Point me in the right directions for anything from easier to hard legato stuff. Videos, tabs, songs that have sick legato stuff that I could look up.

Watch some Steve Vai on YouTube, seriously the guys a master at legato, also Allan Holdsworth.

are there any vai or white lion songs / solos specifically to start with?

There's so much material for these guys to cover though, if anyone has some specific songs with their favourite legato type licks to recommend that'd be great to get started

Skolnick can legato - check out Testament, Return to Serenity

just tie your pick hand behind your back and play...you'll stumble on some nice legato things on your own.

I had the opposite problem, I had decent left hand speed and took off running without learning to first walk and had Eruption down with in the first few months of playing guitar. I got in a bad habit of cheating by relying too muck on my left hand. When I wanted to learn Yngwie and DiMeola stuff later my fraudulent left hand style was exposed :)

Got a great start. I am really starting to love Kotzen's playing the more that I listen to. He was one of the guys I never listened to that often but I am glad I am now.

Keep the suggestions flowing guys, thanks

Definitely check out Marshall Harrison. Dude's got an amazing legato, string skipping & hybrid technical facility. It's a really cool way of approaching the guitar I think.
Plus he's a really cool guy with an amazing brain.

This is cool as hell, I think it's out of my range skill wise but I am gonna try.
