Right now I'm using a Vypyr 75 wt solid state amp. The amp has worked well for me when I play metal songs but when I want to play Pink Floyd's Time or Comfortably Numb or Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs it fails badly. So now I'm looking to buy a new tube amp so I can play all of these bands. Please I'm a total noob and I'm clueless when it comes down to tube amps so please point me in the right direction. I plan on buying a Big Muff and Voodoo Labs Micro Vibe pedal to go with the tube amp. My budget is anything under a $1000. Even though I will play mostly at home I plan will also use it in clubs in the future. Please what amps should I look at?

You can find a used Fender Hot Rod Deville 2x12 combo for 450-500 all day long. With that, you can buy your self a MUCH better Vibe than the microvibe along with other pedals and end up with a great sounding low cost rig that will sound great at home and just about any venue that you could play out at..

Are you in NY Stan? Where abouts?

Although I don't own one, I've played through these Hot Rod Deville's at rehearsal studios and back lines for gigs and they're great. Fantastic value.

I do own a Peavey Classic 50 2x12, which is fairly comparable. Also can be had for very cheap used.

Both will be loud enough for club use.

You might also consider the lunch box head/cabinet route. It's not talked of much here, but I really like the Vox Night Train which can be had for about $650 for the head and 1x12 cab, although you may want a 2x12 if you're gonna play out.

Yes, New Hyde Park in Nassau County.
Cool bro, I grew up in Manhasset, we used to play you guys in Lacrosse every year and them I lived in Freeport for awhile. Been in Manhattan for the last 20 years but will be back out on Strong Island for good within the next 5 years...

No Joke Steve, With the right pedals, you can practically play any gig with the Hot Rod Deville.... Mild blues to full on Metal... Thing impressed the hell out of me and was a no brainer for a good combo at an even better price..

One of the great sleeper tube amps on the cheap is a JSX. Very respectable tones, 3 channels, with adjustable loop that can be footswitched as a boost. They are dirt cheap used.

Several good amps for under a G:

Egnater Renegade
JSX as mentioned
Mark III
5150 III 50 watt
Blackstar
Jet City etc...

I'd snag an Egnater Renegade since it has great gain tones and the clean channel takes pedals like a champ for your Floyd type stuff.

Some good suggestions mentioned already

Hot rod Deville as mentioned above. I love the tones from them.
Egnater rebel 30 should be around there.
Fender deluxe reverb should also be around that price point.
Peavey Classic 30 should be well under what you are looking to spend.
Fender Blues JR.

What year/version EHX Big Muff are you looking to use?

Recently bought the EHX Big Muff Classic Dist/Sustain Pedal. It worked pretty decent on my Vypyr at low volume but I can't get the full use of this pedal without a tube amp.

Been in Manhattan for the last 20 years but will be back out on Strong Island for good within the next 5 years...

I worked in Manhattan for 25 years, retired 3 years ago at an early age. I hated that commute but over the last 5 years the traffic out here has gotten just as bad.

Keep the suggestions coming I'm writing them all down and will check out all these amps at the local GC in the coming days.

I'm really leaning toward getting a new Fender Hot Rod Deville 212 but I have a shot at buying a used Hot Rod Deville 4X10. I haven't tried the 4X10 so I don't know how it sounds. Besides the speakers what's the big difference between the 212 and the 4X10? Should I go for the 212 instead?

If they are both the 60 watt version than I'm pretty sure it's the exact same amp just different speakers.

Agree with the Fenders, Deluxe Reverb, Deville, Hot Rod Deluxe, Mojo Hand Luna Vibe(best bang for the buck IMO) and maybe a Skreddy Lunar Module, a Delay and your favorite drive pedal and you can cover a BUNCH of territory.

The Bogner Alchemist is pretty cool. And versitile.

I have had a JSX (great head) and my other guitarist has the hotrod deville which is good too but for a grand or less I would buy Randyvansykes used Budda sd18 combo in the gear classifieds here. The Budda drive channel to me is one of the best ever and the clean channel while not having a ton of headroom is a great vox type sound. Really, Really great tone for not much dough.
